 Plan of investigation
The topic for my English sba is Dancehall music. I plan on investigating how influential
dancehall music is in other countries. I chose to investigate this topic because dancehall
music is a form of self- expression and is very influential to me and my fellow peers. We
have little knowledge of how this music affects society in other countries and would like to
enhance our knowledge. in order to complete this research I intend to:
Select three pieces that compliments my topic
Meet and discuss pieces with group members
Plan and present an oral presentation
Analyze each piece using various form of English
To enhance and investigate my topic more I intend to surf the net for articles on my topic,
read books etc. From this research I expect to benefit as a student of English since it will
develop my skills of problem solving, analytical skills and reading skills.
Reflection 1
My topic is How influential is dancehall music in other countries. This reflection will discuss
an article, a picture, and a video. Some questions that I want to be answered from the data
are, How popular is dancehall music in other countries? If dancehall music contributes to
violence in these countries, how so and to what extent? The article helped my topic by
outlining how dancehall music is loved and how influential it can be in other countries. In the
article it is basically trying to say it is caused by The love people have for the artist and the
type of songs they sing for e.g. about fight and guns. The pictures show people treating a
particular dj as if he were a god During my research, I have found out that dancehall music is
highly influential among other countries such as africa and they can even go as far as
worshipping an artist
 REFLECTION 2
The article titled: Dancehall as a crime trigger states that “People who listen to
Skillibeng’s Whap! Whap! in America and London, they are not going out there
and doing any crime. Some of them don’t even know what that Whap! Whap!
means. They just like that part of the song,” A concerned Prime Minister Andrew
Holness has specifically cited Whap! Whap! as a song that has a negative
impact on society.
The video titled They worship vybz kartel if you watch the video closely you will see
Africans in Kenya who worship vybz kartel acting wildly to his music on vybz kartel's
birthday. The video shows their behavior towards Vybz kartel's music.
What stands out most to me in the article is that the violence this music has on society
energises the minds to do great things because Elite sports personalities, lawyers, and
other professionals who are fans of violence-laden songs listen in order to
“energise themselves.

This SBA started out with our teacher explaining to us the different
section of the English SBA once we got the full understanding we
were placed into groups of six then we selected our group topic
(MUSIC) and individually selected our sub topics ( *•Does dancehall
music play a significant role in violence in schools•*, *•How does
Rivalry among dancehall Artist affect the Harmony in the Music
Industry•*, *•How dancehall fashion affect society•* , *•Does
dancehall music contribute significantly to violence in school?•* )and
once we had all this in place we had to do our individual research to
find evidence for articles.The research of this project was made with
the dedicated use of the internet.The articles found were very
informative and also help in improving out grammar and
vocabulary.Analyzing the information was not very difficult; insisted
it was quite easy to understand the concept of the article by just
reading it once out commers of the research were very positive as
grammar, writing , reading and comprehension skills were stressed
and improved by the help of our teacher and other group members
also. Our knowledge on the topic music was also widened and
improved we met most times online in our group we created and
discussed the information of our objectives

The three artefacts that I eventually settled on weren’t that hard to find because dancehall is
basically like our culture. It was quite surprising, even though I knew that dancehall music
was very influential, I didn’t know to what extent and how. This research has changed my
thoughts and morals towards Dancehall music in both a good and bad way. The lyrics are
very influential towards violence but in some cases it spreads joy and laughter.

Working in a group on this project left a big impact on me. The group members portray
strong and outstanding characteristics in discussing our evidence. I was also inspired by their
passion to learn and to get the job done. It was always my preference to work by myself but
working with these group members let me understand and learn more about myself.

At the end of this research, I am better able to communicate with my peers and learn time
management and self-value.
