The topic for my English sba is Dancehall music. I plan on

investigating how dancehall music impacts society. I chose to
investigate this topic because dancehall music is a form of self-
expression and is very influential to me and my fellow peers we have
little knowledge of how this music affects society and would like to
enhance our knowledge.in order to complete this research I intend to:

 Select three pieces that compliments my topic

 Meet and discuss pieces with group members
 Plan and present an oral presentation
 Analyze each piece using various form of English

To enhance and investigate my topic more I intend to surf the net for
articles on my topic, read books etc. From this research I expect to
benefit as a student of English since it will develop my skills of
problem solving, analytical skills and reading skills.

 Reflection 1

My topic is Does dancehall music contribute significantly to violence in school. This

reflection will discuss an article, a picture, and a video. Some questions that I want to be
answered from the data are, does dancehall music causes violence in school? If dancehall
music contribute to violence, how so and to what extent? And how can we prevent the
problem? The article helped my topic by outlining how dancehall music cause violence in
school. In the article it is basically trying to say it is cause by the love the school children
have for these artist and the type of songs that they sing for e.g. about fight and guns. The
picture show children dancing wildly to music in school which could lead to fight this is a big
impact dancehall music have on school kids and the video gave me a visual image of what
goes on among children in school who listen to violent dancehall music and how dancehall
music has corrupted the mind of children and cause violence. During my research, I have
found out that dancehall music is highly influential among children in school and it can
causes them to not be successful in life.
 REFLECTION 2

The article titled: DANCEHALL INFLUENCE the article state that (Dancehall music in
today's society exposes young minds to violence. This influences the youngsters to behave
violently and it seems acceptable in their minds) songs like vybz kartel (box lunch) and
alkaline (nah fi like) or songs that influence the young mind to do violence.

The picture showing children dancing wildly in school which give me a better understanding
that dancehall music is controlling their young minds, the pic is showing the removal of
uniform which can lead to violence or sexual abuse.

The video titled influence of dancehall music if you watch the video you will understand that
the video tell you how dancehall music influence school children the video state how they
behaviour and what cause it.

What stands out most for me in the article was how children gravitate to artists and why all
artist shouldn’t sing these type of music. This helped me to better understand that dancehall
music contribute to violence in school.

This SBA started out with our teacher explaining to us the different
section of the English SBA once we get the full understanding were
placed into groups of six then we selected our group topic (MUSIC)
and individually selected our sub topics ( *•Does danchall music play
a significant role in voilence in schools•*, *•How does Rivalry among
dancehall Artist affect the Harmony in the Music Industry•*, *•How
dancehall fashion affect society•* , *•Does dancehall music contribute
significantly to violence in school?•* )and once we had all this in
place we had to do our individual research to find evidence for
articles.The research of this project was made with the dedicated use
of the internet.The articles found were very informative and also help
in improving out grammar and vocabulary.Analyzing the information
was not very difficult; insisted it was quite easy to understand the
concept of the article by jus reading it once out commers of the
research were very positive as grammar, writing , reading and
comprehension skills were stressed and imoroved by the help of our
teacher and other group members also. Our knowledge on the topic
music was also widened and improved we met most times online in
our group we created that out teacher is also apart of and dicussed the
information of our objectives
 Reflection 3

The three artefacts that I eventually settled on weren’t that hard to find because dancehall is
basically like our culture. It was quite surprising, even though I knew that dancehall music
was very influential, I didn’t know to what extent and how. This research has changed my
thoughts and morals towards music and it makes me feel bad because the artists are
considered role models to most children yet they are leading them down the wrong path with
their music.

Working in a group on this project left a big impact on me. The group members portray
strong and outstanding characteristic in discussing our evidence, I was also inspired by their
passion to learn and to get the job done. It was always my preference to work by myself but
working with these group members let me understand and learn more about myself.

At the end of this research, I am better able to communicate with my peers and learn time
management and self-value.
