A short description of the content of the poster, and a justification of the way
you organized it visually.
This poster explores how Uniqlo’s management systems work. Specifically, there are 6
main points that are emphasized visually in the poster, including:
1. Company Overview
This part mainly presents the most basic information about Uniqlo, a global apparel
company. In addition, Uniqlo’s ultimate mission, vision, and core values are also
illustrated in this part, providing the benchmarks of their corporate activities, which drive
the decision-making process by which they carry out their mission.
2. External environment
Pestle’s analysis is carried out in this session by studying the key external factors
(Political, Economic, Sociological, Technological, Legal, and Environmental) that
influence an organization as well as how much impact Porter’s 5 forces analysis (New
entrants, substitutes, buyer and supplier's power, competitive rivalry) makes on the
production.
3. Internal environment
This part is divided into 2 main points: Primary activities and supporting activities.
Primary activities include inbound and outbound logistics, service, marketing/sale, and
operation. Meanwhile, procurement, RnD system, administration, and HR management
are considered to be supporting activities.
4. Resources
This session illustrates all of Uniqlo’s assets, including financial status, legacy,
technology developed, stores, human budget, and equipment.
5. Swot analysis
In this part particularly, 4 points including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats that Uniqlo is facing are clearly defined with details to show how they would deal
with what they currently have.
6. Strategy

3
Based on the Swot analysis and the competency framework that we built in the
background, we came up with different solutions for Uniqlo that are divided into 4
smaller sessions: SO, ST, OW, and WT.

As the designer for this poster, I organized all the contents in a vertical structure.
Speaking from my 1+ year of experience designing posters, vertical posters are much
more versatile when printed and most pleasing to most eyes. PESTLE’s analysis and 5
forces analysis is designed in a more special way compared to the others as this part
should be the first thing that viewers see, so I put them on top, in well-designed elements
and colored palettes. The others are put in text boxes and from top to bottom order, as
that is how humans naturally read. For visual effects, random elements and models are
added.

A critical review of group 3’s poster: Heineken

Strengths:
● Overall, the poster looks great with a pleasing green palette and well-organized
content with appropriate icons and elements.
● In terms of the content, information about the environment both internal and
external is well-analyzed with numbers and figures associated. Group 3 clearly put lots of
effort into researching all the factors that affect the organization based on how they
conducted the SWOT analysis and came up with ideas about the strategies. Especially,
the table built in the VRIO framework is very detailed and worth appraising.
Weaknesses:
● Visually, the way they organized the elements is still not on spot. In detail, there
are lots of dead spaces that are not optimized. The effects used on the elements are
considered to be too simple regarding the amount of time given to create the poster. The
text size used in the box is too small and requires extreme zoom capacity to be read
pleasingly. Notably, elements are blurry.

4
● The content of the strategies given is still somewhat lacking, especially the SO,
OW, and WT parts. Some other parts, however, are overloaded with information and
unnecessarily long and boring to read.
● Citation is not used in this poster, making all the information stated unreliable
although references are included, moreover, it would be very challenging to justify all the
figures and statements.
As a whole, group 3 did a great job composing the whole poster with clear information
and well-constructed points. Despite the aforementioned weaknesses, I would say this
group has put up a great performance, considering both content and visualization.

Personal experience with the group assignments.

I wouldn’t this is the first time I work with all the members so the workflow and how we
agreed to collaborate was peaceful and respectful regarding the relationships among us.
In the end, I would say both the poster and how we delivered the presentation were all
according to the plans and everything went seamlessly.
Our group assignment was divided into 3 total phases before finalizing everything from
content for presentation to the official poster.
Phase 1: Internal and external environment analysis
The very first meeting was held offline and we assigned each individual their own
responsibility on researching whether internal or external environment. A random wheel
of names was used and we were all happy with the results and work associated. A few
days later, everyone submitted and we held the second online meeting to reconstruct
everyone’s content and put them together to create a basic framework, as well as plan for
the next phase.
Phase 2: SWOT analysis, competency framework, and Strategies
Similarly, everyone was assigned their own work to contribute to the SWOT analysis and
the competency simultaneously. After that, we constructed the strategies at an offline
meeting with everyone’s ideas. Personally, I would say not everyone was absent and was
not putting all of their efforts into this 3rd meeting so things were a bit sluggish and

5
difficult to finalize the contents. However, the output was still confirmed by everyone and
ready for visualization.
Phase 3: Visualization and poster designing
I was assigned to be the only designer for this poster, so this clearly put a lot of stress on
my shoulders. A lot of considerations and challenges were put up against me during this
phase as none of the other members can help as they are not skilled enough in designing.
I learned so much in this experience, although I have designed posters before, such as
choosing the appropriate canvas size, making decisions about which kinds of elements
should be used or which fonts are the best, etc…. Days after, the first draft was finished
and feedback flooded in, which caused me extreme stress and headache having to fix the
posters. 4 drafts later and the final poster was produced, and our team was all happy with
what I have done.
To sum up, this group assignment was not easy to any extent as every member of our
team had put a lot of effort into making this poster as well as the presentation, despite
some flaws and hardships. Undeniably, I myself have learned so much about Uniqlo’s
management systems, designing skills as well as interpersonal skills, and endurance
against such stress throughout the making of this assignment.

REPORT ON POSTER ASSIGNMENT, COURSE NAME: MANAGEMENT

During the Management course, all students had a group assignment of an academic
poster of a firm by any industry. In addition, each individual has to write a report on their
group’s poster, one other group’s poster, and the experience throughout the assignment.
This report will cover the three former points.

First and foremost, a brief description of our poster about UNIQLO. Detail arrangements
are in synchronization with UNIQLO. Regarding the layout, the poster embraces
UNIQLO’s palette of red, white, and gray. It is also conceived on a simple and modern
theme to correspond to the maxim of the brand: "Simple Lifewear". Our study structure is
explicit: external factors within the fast fashion industry and micro-factors of UNIQLO,
SWOT analysis and potential strategies. When considering the industry, Japan -
UNIQLO’s home country - has more advantageous conditions in politics and economics
for fast fashion to grow than international markets. Additionally, UNIQLO is strongly
affected by generation Z, followed by technology, environmental awareness, and policies.
Furthermore, we also researched the level of each component’s force on the fast fashion
industry. In short, buyers and different corporations (known as rivals) have high pressure
whereas suppliers and substitutes affect the industry insignificantly. Only the force
caused by potential entrants is medium. We continue conducting our research on
UNIQLO’s resources and activities. Some significant findings infer that UNIQLO has
established high-quality resources: a network of suppliers, product patents (HeatTech,
AIRism), a trustworthy brand image, and a large crew of qualified employees in
thousands of stores around the globe. A conclusion about the company’s activities is
drawn, saying UNIQLO’s biggest schemes are to work delicately with partnerships,
procurement, production line, and customer satisfaction. The last part of our poster is the
SWOT analysis, which consists of factors UNIQLO can use to build strategies for either

7
development or prevention. For example, this company has pros in logistics - supply
chain, however, the chain is only regionally proactive, which results in a strategy for
them to re-allocate the chain to distribute more effectively and preventively against
global issues. Or, they might acquire teams for various designs, or more realistic
campaigns related to ecology to secure brand equity and product lines.

Secondly, I will review McDonald's poster from Group 8. Overall, the poster is
eye-catching with a suited theme for the brand. It conceives a good layout, but the space
for each part is not allocated equally. For instance, the SWOT area is spacious.
Otherwise, the frame for capabilities is restricted with scattered lines of words. Getting to
the details in terms of both content and graphics, I personally hold the following
comments. For good points, external analysis was pertinent to the topic, their findings are
direct to the model, therefore, I can easily understand the assessed field. In Porter’s Five
Forces, each component force is rated, making the final evaluation reasonable. In
addition, throughout sections graphs and illustrations for easy, interesting comprehension.
Nevertheless, I think group 8 should adjust these for improvements. The first notice, the
word limit should be stipulated, otherwise, it would be overwhelming for a reader to read
fully. Instead of including a full sentence, the group should give out the main phrase and
interpret it shortly. Another comment is that the SWOT analysis is insufficient and
redundant at the same time. Although listing out opportunities and threats in PESTEL
provides clear inspection, it is not necessary. Whereas, the main SWOT, especially the
strengths and opportunities sections, lacks explanations. SWOT consists of multiple
sections but not showing much connection for understanding, consequently, this improper
information inclusion confuses. Next, I reckon some strategies suggested ought to be
more specific. Take the S2 T1 strategy to illustrate, group 8 could mention S3
(technology) to clarify, from “Provide food and service with competitive price” to “Make
price more competitive with upgraded technology, decreasing lead time and fee,
increasing efficiency”. My last suggestion is that the team should prepare more carefully

8
for the presentation because I saw that some presenters were late, unprepared,
uncomfortable, and unconfident.

Lastly, I would like to share my personal experience about the teamwork assignment. It
was my first time working with my team, and even though I worked with some
individuals before, this combination was the first time. Real-time results and
effectiveness exceeded my expectation. There were times when the team could not have a
full-member meeting, but the absent members caught up with the team fast so as to avoid
miscommunication and that person tried to complete their part correctly and fittedly with
the team. Accordingly, my team was able to keep up with the planned schedule for the
assignment. Moreover, multiple outstanding suggestions were raised, giving proper
direction and boosting the process. To be clear, we had some problems working on the
competency framework, it was Linh gave out guidance and directions on where to start
and how to assess strengths and weaknesses, helping us complete the SWOT analysis
correctly. All members of our team had rather busy personal schedules, as a result, we
respected each other’s time and shared responsibilities. This was shown during team
meetings, members concentrated hard on the discussion for the best efficiency and were
serious about the assignment. I could see this through cross-support as well, it means that
one is willing to help and share parts with others in order to keep tasks distributed
equally. Ordinarily, students would want to be paired up with top students for higher
marks. But the truth is teaming up with suitable teammates would result in better quality
output, and higher scores too. After this assignment, I am triggered to try working with
many other classmates rather than sticking to just one group of friends, so as to learn new
things from them, as well as for new experiences. On top of that, the teamwork lesson
was not the only thing I learned after the assignment. I also learned how deep studying
can actually be interesting. In my first year, I was loosing on my studying, relying on
conspectus courses, and not doing much deep research. Thanks to field-related courses
and assignments, I found the eagerness to read more and study more from reports,

9
research, and findings. I was pleased to draw myself two precious extra-curriculum
lessons after the course.

At the end of the assignment of making an academic poster, not only academic
knowledge was learned but also lessons during the process. Frankly, I would say the
assignment ended satisfactorily, and hopefully, the course would be the same as well.

PART 1: ABOUT OUR POSTER

1. A short description of the content of the poster:

Our poster was divided into 4 parts.

Part 1 is an overview of UNIQLO. In this section, we have outlined the origin, category
of the business, vision, mission, and core values.
Part 2 is the analysis of the External environment, including the analysis of the business
according to the PESTEL and Porter’s Five Forces model. For PESTEL, our team gave
the factors related to Political, Economic, Sociological, Technological, Legal and
Environment that affect the macro-environment of the brand. Besides, Porter’s Five
Forces model was included in the analysis to consider its influence on the
micro-environment of the business.
Part 3 is about the Internal environment. We found information about intangible and
intangible resources of UNIQLO. Besides, primary and support activities were also
included. From the above data, we have arranged and collected several ideas in order to
put into a competency framework which was not shown on the poster since our team only
considered it as a tool to help us easily manage information and extract the Strengths and
Weaknesses of the brand.
The last part is about SWOT and Strategy table. The brand’s Strengths and Weaknesses
can be seen from the analysis of the external environment; Opportunities and Threats are
drawn from the internal environment. All data in this SWOT table helped us to come up
with Strategies for UNIQLO’s operation.

2. A justification for the way to visualize the poster:

When deciding to analyze UNIQLO, our team agreed to choose the red and white color
tone, which is also the main color of the brand for viewers can quickly access the

11
business that we were talking about. We arranged the poster included About UNIQLO,
External environment, Internal environment, SWOT, Strategies, and References in order
from top to bottom so that people can follow the analysis in an easier way. Because it is a
poster, it must be designed in an eye-catching way and not contain too many words so
each individual in the group summarized their own research and gave the main ideas that
should be appeared on the poster. The poster was designed by the main designer and was
continuously commented on and modified according to the members’ opinions so as to
create the most impressive poster.

PART 2: A CRITICAL REVIEW OF ONE OTHER POSTER:

Last week, my class had a presentation about the posters of the groups and through that
session, I chose to give my opinion on the poster of group 8: McDonald’s. The reason
why is that this is the fast food restaurant that I go to often, so it seems like I can quickly
understand the analysis of group 8.

Talking about their strengths, when I first looked at the poster, I could easily identify this
fast food brand because the group was very smart and sophisticated in choosing the main
color for the poster along with the attached images of McDonald’s products. The group
has fully stated the general information about the brand; used PESTEL, Porter’s Five
Forces to analyze the external environment, Resources, and Capabilities for the internal
environment; contained SWOT analysis, Strategies, and References. Each section was
neatly and clearly framed to make it easy for viewers to follow. In addition, they also
used specific charts and figures to put on their poster to increase the reliability of the
information they found. Finally, the reference section showed that all their data was read,
and quoted from accurate and reliable sources, which made me and others feel safe
viewing the poster.

12
Nevertheless, overall, I personally find their poster contains too many words, and some of
the text is quite small too, which makes it hard to read. Besides, they do not mark the
citation so it is quite confusing for me to refer to the information on the poster with the
sources. On the presentation day, they took a long time because the poster has too much
to say so they skipped many parts, they were still dependent on the scripts a lot so I hope
they will improve this part for the next time.

PART 3: MY EXPERIENCE ABOUT GROUP ASSIGNMENT:

The poster-making process is an interesting experience in my college time, our lecturer

and my teammates for giving me the opportunity to work and learn more about business
analysis through this task. When we were given the assignment, my group offered a lot of
ideas from food, and jewelry to clothes business and finally, the team decided to go with
UNIQLO. After we picked out the brand, we filed our own free schedule so we could set
up a meeting as soon as possible, some days we stayed after class to hold a meeting. In
the first meeting, my team had chosen the format for the poster, build a portfolio, divided
tasks, and gave a deadline to be completed for everyone.

During the time finishing individual tasks, the members are always ready to search for
other people’s sources of information and put them in the group chat box for the whole
group to refer to. They constantly support each other to deliver the best and on-time
output. After completing individual tasks, we continued to meet to review the data that
others found, analyzed SWOT, offered Strategies, and chose ideas to be put on the poster.
When the poster is finished, our group decided to have all members present to divide the
information for the presenters, moreover, we wanted the members to have the chance to
practice their presentation skills in front of the crowd. It was an idea that I really enjoy.
Thanks to this project, I have learned a lot of things and gained more experience for
myself. I understand that research is difficult and time-consuming, but I did not give up
and as a result, I am proud of contributing a part of my effort to this poster. I had a better

13
understanding of the nature of sections like PESTEL, Porter’s Five Forces, etc. Those
will be the basic steps that will help me analyze any business in the future. Moreover, I
also learned a lot from working in a group, I had to listen, contribute personal ideas
constantly, urge everyone in the team to hold a meeting, to work more productively and
faster to meet the deadline without delaying the group’s activities.

Phó Minh Tuấn - 2113533015
REPORT

A short description of the content of the poster, and a justification of the way you
organized it visually.

The topic for analyzing of our group 4 is UNIQLO. We chose UNIQLO instead of other
brands because of its unique way of developing in fashion. UNIQLO is different from
many other brands since they maintain their core value and improve constantly the
quality of product rather than follow the fashion trend of the world or create new styles.
However, UNIQLO is the third largest apparel retailer in the world, approximately 24
countries and more than 2000 stores. Our group has sorted the contents properly which is
numbered clearly from external , internal environment to SWOT analysis and strategy in
order to give the best view for you about UNIQLO. To be more specific, the main theme
color is red and white ( comes from the UNIQLO symbol), in the poster from top to
bottom, the first part help you have a brief perspective about the development history of
the brand, their current and the foundation for UNIQLO’s success today. Under it are the
first main part: the External environment and the Resources, the contents are displayed
shortly and concisely with lively images so that we could possibly get the main point
about our analysis in the PESTEL and 5 forces. The Pestel provide a brief analysis in
Political, Economic, Sociocultural, Legal, Environment and Technology while in the 5
force, we judge the of 5 elements: new entrants, substitutes, buyer power, supplier power
and competitive rivals. The resources is divided in four different aspects
Financial,Intangible, Physical and Human resources so that you can learn more about
their initial value which lead UNIQLO to success today. Moving onto the second main
part comprising Internal Environment, SWOT analysis and strategy. The internal
environment show primary and supporting activities provide a clearer view on how
UNIQLO keep developing and manage their domestic activities, we listed five basic
activities which are inbound & outbound logistics, service, marketing/ sales and

15
operation along with feature departments of the company which support and enhance the
productivity for the primary activities. After that, the most important one is the SWOT
analysis, it require us a deep research to notice 4 main elements of UNIQLO: their
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Besides, the strategy is also mentioned
by us to deal with each point in the SWOT analysis. At the end of the poster will be all
the preferences.

A critical review of group 2’s poster: Nestle’

Among any other group’s posters, I was impressed by group 2’s with the topic about
Nestle’ not only because their poster are well displayed and concise but Nestle’ is also
the brand which is very familiar to me or students in general. I thought group 2 have
devoted a lot of time and effort to their product so i really appreciate that. In my opinion,
their biggest strength is the design of the poster, they decorated the poster lively with the
images of products and materials of Nestle’, the contents are sorted and numbered
properly. Furthermore, group 2 have presented the information in the poster in various
forms: comparative tables, timeline, maps,... which make me more likely to follow and
understand. About the research and content, I see their analysis convincing due to
realistic data and related references. they have provided But to be fair, I also see some
points they can improve to even better their poster. First, the font of the content’s text
should be changed, and the size of text should be bigger to give a better view. Second, we
can see there’ still blanks in the poster which make it feel like they could not ultilize all
the space of the poster. Third, i think the primary activities can be made better because
the marketing and operations have not made me clear yet. Finally, in the Threats part of
SWOT strategy, the informations are still in general, they need to listed more specifically

Personal experience with the group assignments.

16
In term of my experience about group assignment. I found it really interesting and useful.
It is because i have worked with most members of the group before that I need no time to
collaborate well with the members . The assignment is included presentation, researching
information and designing so it can fit each members’ strengths. Thang is very good at
designing, some member capable of and guilding the group to research and find
necessary information and all of us can present well. To have the best workflow, our
group divided the process into 3 section. The first section is to read and gather researched
informations related to Internal and External environment, by doing that it help our group
have a first look on UNIQLO and gradually . In this section, everyone can do
individually . After that, everyone submitted and we had our first meeting to check and
criticize the quality of content before gathering and puting them into a basic frame work,
and preparing for the next section as planned. The second section is a group work which
we have to deal with the SWOT analysis, competency framework and strategy together.
First, each member have to contribute as much as possible 4 elements of the SWOT, the
effort are highly appreciated because we have more than we have expected. The meeting
was soon held to filter and check until we all agreed with each other. No one is absent so
that the quality of the output can be ensured. The third section also the final one is
visualization and poster designing, Thang is assigned for this part, everyone supported
him if neccessary
To sum up, this group assignment was not easy, it demand lots of efforts and group work .
Furthermore , we also need to present the poster in class but i assume that this is not the
difficult one beacause we all get the content well. Undeniably, I myself have learned so
much about Uniqlo’s management systems, designing skills as well as interpersonal
skills, and endurance against such stress throughout the making of this assignment.

17
Vũ Quang Vinh - 2113533020
REPORT

Short description of our group’s poster

Our group chose UNIQLO as the subject for analysis because we want to research an
apparel company currently expanding to VietNam. UNIQLO is a clothing apparel
company, which was originally founded in Yamaguchi, Japan in 1949. The company
mission is “Unlocking the Power of Clothing”, which means UNIQLO aims to deliver
high quality clothes at the lowest prices that can bring positive values to the world while
also being sustainable and ethical. The company vision is “To become the number 1
clothes retailer in the world.”, UNIQLO aims to achieve this by putting customers first,
focus on selling durable but affordable clothes and keep on making innovative ideas.
Finally, the company’s core values are customer first, embrace innovation and challenges,
respect individuals of the company and committed to ethical and correctness standards.
Because this is the company overview, it should be the first thing you see in the poster, so
we put it on the top left.
For the macro and micro environment analysis, our group chose the Pestel model and 5
forces in order to fully encapsulate the conditions that UNIQLO has to face and
opportunities that UNIQLO can take advantage of. From there we can figure out the
threats and opportunities surrounding UNIQLO. Since our group adopted a macro to
micro and external to internal approach of displaying information, we put the Pestel
model as the second and 5 forces analysis as the third piece of information in reading
order.
Next part is the internal environment. Our group analyzes the main and supporting
activities of UNIQLO and resources that UNIQLO has in order to come up with strengths
and weaknesses of UNIQLO. Main activities include inbound and outbound logistics,
services, marketing/sales and operation. Supporting activities include procurement,
research and development, administration and HR management. For resources analysis,
we focus on tangible assets including the company financial, physical stores, equipment

18
and employees. Intangible assets include the company reputation, culture, marketing and
patents. We arrange the internal the way it is because we want to save room for the most
important parts at the bottom of the poster.
Finally, the SWOT model and strategies that our group suggested. The strategies that we
suggested mainly focus on capturing a new group of audiences who are environmentally
conscious, improve UNIQLO international sales and expand while also diversifying
UNIQLO manufacturing activities. The SWOT model is placed on the left of strategy
suggestions to allow for easier information extraction, which strength and opportunities
contribute to which strategy.

Critical review of other posters

I believe that all groups did a great job designing their posters so they can communicate
their information effectively and eye-catchingly. In my opinion, the 2 most visually
striking posters are the Heineken poster and the L’oreal poster. The way they put a large
image of the company product draws people's attention and instantly lets them know
which company the poster is about. And they make very well use of the company color
scheme to make their poster stand out and visually pleasant. But both posters fall into the
trap of trying to present too much information. This made words in some parts too small
to properly read, especially in the Pestel analysis, primary and supporting activities of
both posters. And both of the posters have too many words making reading all the
contents a bit of a chore. The too many words is very noticeable in the Heineken poster
and the inconsistent word sizing really highlights this issue. For the L’oreal poster, I
really think that the company overview, primary activities and organization culture were
rushed because the design for these parts feel incomplete and there is still much room to
improve.
And another well designed poster is the Petrolimex poster, they strike a right balance of
number of words where it is not overwhelming and hard to read but still deliver enough
knowledge. The poster layout is easy to follow, they present information visually making
it very straightforward and easy to understand.

19
Personal experience about group assignment
In doing the company analysis, I have to pick up a lot of new information. Having to
learn how a company operates as a whole really has taught me the importance of
management roles in a company. A decision from a manager could make or break a
company, so in order to do management duty effectively, one must have a thorough
understanding of how the company operates, how different factors like internal and
external environments could deeply alter the direction of the firm. And by doing this
assignment, I have had the basic grasp of how to dissect a company, what to take into
consideration and how to come up with strategies that can resolve those problems.
Overall, I have a great time doing this assignment with my group. I have learned alot
about how to do a proper analysis and how to manage a group of people, enabling them
to communicate and teamwork successfully. My group was split into 2 teams, one team
tackled the external environment and the other did the internal environment, and finally
we came together to do the SWOT model and strategy. This approach allows us to work
more efficiently instead of having to do every step together. This helped me to learn that
dividing roles is a very important task that can influence our working pace moving
forward. My group approach to managing is rather democratic, meaning everyone has
their votes on how things should be done. This approach allows for everyone to feel more
comfortable, encourages idea sharing and contributes to the collective benefits. But this
method of management also comes with the disadvantage of being quite time consuming
as we have to wait for everyone to deliver their comment and suggestion and oftentimes
everyone is available at the same time. To solve this problem, we usually had to follow
the majority idea to ensure that we completed tasks on schedule. And of course this
resulted in sometimes we missed out on brilliant motions that we had to come back to add
in later. So after all, I think that my group has successfully managed to come to a final
product that everyone is satisfied with.

20
Trần An Huy - 2114533008
In the management course, our group had to make a poster about any company in the
industry. In addition, each of us had to write a report that included our poster description,
comment on the poster of any other group, and evaluate the teamwork. My personal
report below will be divided into 3 parts.
Firstly, about our poster, we will follow the analyzing direction from outside to inside of
Uniqlo business. The first is a brief introduction of the company. This section will include
an overview, vision, mission and core values of the company. Then we will evaluate and
analyze the external factors. We use 2 models to evaluate external factors which are the 5
forces model of Michael Porter and PESTEL. Michael Porter's five-forces model will
analyze the threat of potential new entrants, threat of substitutes, bargaining power of
buyers, bargaining power of suppliers, competitive rivalry. and the PESTEL model will
be used to evaluate how factors such as politics, economy, society, technology,
environment, and law in general affect the textile industry, from which more get a
broader view of the industry in which Uniqlo operates. The internal factors, which will be
analyzed in turn, are the primary factors and how the supporting factors affect Uniqlo.
Next we will analyze the resources that the company has. After analyzing the internal
factors, Uniqlo's competitive advantages will be given. And finally, my group used the
SWOT model to summarize the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats from
which to come up with strategies for Uniqlo. The poster is presented in the order of our
analysis from external factors to internal factors and synthesizes and gives strategies for
the company. To match the theme and identity of the company, our team also chose red,
white, and gray colors as well as used some Uniqlo models to highlight our posters.

Secondly, I will review the VNG Games business analysis work of group 5. First of all,
the poster looks quite eye-catching and suitable for the VNG brand. The sections are
arranged very evenly, the overall look can be easily read which part is before and after.
However, the color of the poster's work is a bit monotonous. In addition, Michael Porter's
5 forces analysis of overlapping words makes it difficult for readers to understand the

21
content. Going deeper into the details of the content, I personally have the following
comments, about analyzing external factors. The team went directly to the overview of
the industry that the VNG Games business operates in, so it helps me get an overview of
the industry, their group also provided convincing data and evidence. However, I have
some suggestions for the group about word limit because when looking at it, if the reader
does not bother to read it all, the group can summarize a few main ideas and highlight
important phrases. important to make it easier to read. When the reader compares the
data, it is quite easy to get disoriented and not understand. In addition, there are terms
that belong to the industry, so it is also confusing for readers, Group 5 can explain those
terms clearly for readers. In addition, I have some comments on the SWOT section.
There are parts of the strategy that are given that still do not make sense, relevant and do
not see a clear explanation, which can cause confusion. Finally, my suggestion to the
group about the presentation is that the group should prepare more appropriate slides, less
words, and speak more naturally.

Lastly, I will talk about my own experience in the process of working in groups. Due to
lack of experience in research ability and lack of knowledge in the textile industry, the
process of doing the poster faced many difficulties. The first difficulty is the process of
dividing, arranging, and orienting what the group wants to do in the poster. At first, we
were quite disoriented and debated whether our team would analyze the company from
the outside in or from the inside out, then we had to divide it up to see what content each
part would contain. Although it was difficult in terms of orientation, we were able to
finalize the parts and directions of the Poster. During the group work, I was assigned to
do the analysis of the 5-forces of Michael Porter. In the process of doing my assigned
part, it is difficult to find information because the information about the apparel industry
is quite general, so it is also difficult to analyze specifically the segment of the company
Uniqlo focuses on. . Fortunately, I found some fairly reliable sources, industry reports to
complete the assignment. In the process of doing my part, I also received support from
my teammates in terms of content research, together with finding a direction to research.

22
After completing my own part, I also support my teammates to check the content. At the
later stage, the group had difficulty in terms of time. However, the team also synthesized
all the content and came up with a strategy for the company. Then, starting the poster
design part, everyone together contributed ideas for the poster in terms of color, layout
and comments to complete the poster. During the process of making the poster, I feel that
I have helped myself to develop research ability, thinking ability and knowledge to
analyze a business. In the end, what I find I receive the most is the ability to work in a
group, the way our team supports each other, contributes ideas, comments and reviews to
come up with a poster that may not be the best but it is the best poster we could make.

Finally, the poster has been completed satisfactorily, the value that my group received is
not only about academic knowledge but also lessons learned and our experience doing is
good. The whole team hopes the result will be also.

INTRODUCTION

The business environment holds great influence in enabling and shaping companies’
business activities (Buno et al., 2015). Changes in the business environment can create
opportunities for growth as well as threats (Hans, n.d.). Thus, a clear and accurate
understanding of the business environment is of pivotal importance for managers and
administrators. As part of the Principle of Management course requirement, students
were tasked with analyzing a listed company’s environment and provide suggestion in
form of a poster. Below is my personal report on our group’s results, critical analysis of
another group’s poster as well as my personal experience in this group assignment.

DESCRIPTION OF GROUP 4’S POSTER (UNIQLO)

1. Visual arrangement

The poster is presented in a vertical frame, which is easy to follow and pleasing to the
eyes. The decision was made based on discussion among members as well as the
designer’s personal experience, though academic literature also support such choice
(Christenbery & Latham, 2013). 1.2. Color and supporting elements

The colors used for presentation is synchronized with Uniqlo’s brand pallet of red,
white and gray. Elements of clothing and models are added to serve as complementary
component, making the poster more visually appealing without drawing attention
away from important information.

2. Content

The flow of information roughly follows the visual arrangement of the poster with 5
main sections.

2.1. Overview:

24
General introduction of Uniqlo, a Japan-based company, its vision, mission and core
value are presented at the beginning of the poster. With the slogan “Made for all”,
Uniqlo’s products focus on creating sustainable, versatile pieces of clothing that are
practical for everyday use which is also consider its competitive point against other rivals
(Kumar & Majumdarr, n.d.).

2.2. External environment:

In order to analyze the macro environment overall. Our group applies the PESTEL
model. From our research, it can be inferred that Economics, Sociocultural and
Environmental factors have the greatest impact. Then Porter’s 5 forces model is used
to analyze the situation inside the fashion industries. It is found that consumer bargaining
power is high, the industry is subjected to fierce competition among existing rival while
the possibility of substitutes and suppliers’ power is low.

2.3. Internal environment:

Uniqlo’s primary and supporting activities are examined. Our analysis of Uniqlo’s
primary activities show that the brand has strong inbound and outbound logistics
foundation, evidently through its strong and stable relationship with suppliers and
distributors. Supporting activitiesin procurement, technology, R&D, administatin
and HR management all contribute to the operation of Uniqlo.
2.4. Resourses
Uniqlo’s tangible and intangible resoures analiste indicate that the company have
advantagious resources. The brand’s network of supplier and distributor, strong
brand image and technological patent are some of the most signigicant point.

2.5. SWOT and stratergy

From the results of external environment, internal environment and resources of

Uniqlo, our group was able to compose a comprehensive SWOT analysis of
Uniqlo’s situation. From there, solutions to address each issue is suggested in the

25
form of TOWS matrix. Key strategies include accelerating its global expansion
and implementing action to take advantage of current trends related to culture and
environment.

CRITICAL REVIEW OF MCDONALD’S POSTER

Among the poster’s presented by other group in the class, Group 8’s Poster about
McDonald’s would be the topic of my review. Overall. The poster consists of all
necessary information as requied and is presented in a logical, easy to follow order.

1. Strengths

The group provided comprehensive analysis of the external environment factors.

What I find interesting is that in PESTEL analysis the group indicated the opotunities
and threat each point process. This is a diffence way of presentation compared to
other groups. The visualization and illustration used in the poster is eye-catching and
appealing. Iconic elements of McDonald’s are used effectively, which partly assist the
poster overall.

2. Weaknesses

With all that being said, apart from the good points as presented above. The poster still
has limitation. The information presented lacks focus in some parts, meaning the group
have to use lengthy sentences to elaborate information. This in turn affect the word size
in the poster, which I consider to be quite small, making it hard to follow.

Additionally, although the analysis of each part is comprehensive, the SWOT analysis
and strategy isn’t as well-presented. Some information need futther explanation and some
of the strategies presented are not suitable and practical.

EXPERIENCE OF GROUPWORK

1. Overall process

26
Planning is one of the most important part in business administration, and although our
group assignment this time does not stand up to the signifuncance of business operation,
the impact of planning does influence our result and efficiency greatly

From my personal perspective, our group did face difficulties due to ineffective initial
planning. All members of our group have had experience working together before, so
team introduction and collaboration was not a problem. However, as the time of the
assignment overlap with the period where each member of the group was also occupied
with other activities, the assignment was postponed for quite sometimes before the
initiative was taken and groupwork actuality stared.

Overall, our process can be divided into 4 main periods: Innital discussion, Reseaching,
analysis and design

2. Intitial discussion

At the group’s first meeting, the flow of discussion wasn’t smooth at first. We spent a
large proportion of time analising the assignment requirement and menbers have different
opinion regarding the process we should take. However, upon further discussion and
explaination, we deciced to follow the recommended approach. That is to analyze
Uniqlo’s business eviroent ment from macro to micro and internal, conclude by a SWOT
analysis and suggestion based on the TOWS matrix. We proceeded to allocate the
duration, deadline and PIC (person in charge) of each task.

3. Researching

Our first action was to analyze the internal and external environment, for which our
group was divided into two sub group. I was part of the team associated with analyzing
the external environment, and was mainly responsible for macro environment analysis,
for which the PESTEL model is used.

4. SWOT and strategy

27
After initial research was completed, we discussed and finalized our SWOT analysis in
the second group meeting, and then all members contributed ideas for strategies. After
the third meeting, the content of our poster was concluded.

5. Design and visualization

One member of the team, who had experience in designing, was entrusted with the task.
Although not responsible for designing. my teammate and I gave critical feedback to
improve the quality of the poster.

CONCLUSION

Together with the lessons in class, I consider this group assignment as a valuable
experience as I was able to apply theorical knowledge to actually analyze the business
environment of a company. The experience, I believe, would be a great assets in other
subjects in the future.
