After Burner 3D

Originally released in 1987 by Sega for the coin-ops arcade, After Burner is 3D combat flight simulator arcade game.
The player flies an American F-14 Tomcat jet fighter destroying incoming enemies using a machine gun and a limited
amount of heat-seeking missiles.

This is a faithful port of the original game with enhanced graphics and gameplay. It was designed by Brodaroda Software
and released in 2003.

Gameplay

Gamepad support has been added. You can take a look at “Padtokey Profile”
From the Original Game Designer:

Minimum requirements
Pentiun 2 350 MHz or equivalent
64 Mb RAM
50 Mb Hard Disc
Graphics accelerator compatible with DirectX 6
Sound card

Initial setup
Before playing AB3D you will be asked 2 questions: in the first you have to choose whether to use the "Transform &
Lighting" (recommended choice) and in the second you have to decide what kind of control to adopt: the choice is made
by pressing the "y" or "n" keys in lowercase, that is, without the CAPS LOCK.

1) The T&L is a feature of many video cards (such as Ge-Force) that makes the work of the CPU much lighter; as a result,
the game is also smoother, so it is recommended to enable it. If the game does not work then it means that the video card
does not support this feature; it will be enough to restart the game and press "N" to not enable the T&L and the game
should start regularly.

2) Choosing " Y " to the sixth question, you will reverse the controls of the Y axis that is the directional controls UP and
DOWN' : our plane will go up by squeezing the DOWN ARROW and will lower by pressing the UP ARROW key as if
you were flying an airplane.

If, on the other hand, you have chosen not to reverse the controls on the Y axis, pressing UP ARROW the plane rises and
with DOWN ARROW it lowers.

Menu
Once the presentation is finished, the menu will appear at the bottom of the screen; the menu consists of 5 selectable items
by moving on it through the left and right directional arrows and confirmed by pressing the ENTER key:
PLAY - Selecting it you start playing.
HIGH SCORE - Shows the ranking of the 40 best players.
CREDITS - Shows the "credits" with the names of those who made After Burner 3D.
CHEAT - Allows you to enter the codes that unlock the "secrets" of After Burner 3D. The codes are entered with the
alphanumeric keys of the keyboard: what you write is "masked" as if it were a password. All codes must be entered in
lowercase. Cheats can be found on the official page of Brodaroda Software ( www.brodaroda.dk3.com ) in the "download"
section.
QUIT - Pressing it exits the game.

Commands
The movements of the aircraft are controlled by the directional arrows and set according to the choice taken in the initial
setup.
CTRL = Vulcan
SHIFT = Missiles
ESC = During the game pauses the game.

How to play
You have to try to destroy as many enemies as possible and for this purpose there are 2 ways: with the Vulcan or with
automatic aiming missiles.

The viewfinder that you see on the screen serves to frame the enemies: when an enemy has been "hooked" it is framed
by a larger viewfinder; firing a missile, it will automatically go to the target. You can only hook one enemy at a time.

In the event that a missile is fired without any target framed, the missile will be fired empty and will take a random
direction.

Remember that missiles are counted and therefore should not be wasted. The number of missiles left is in the lower right
part of the screen.

The Vulcan does not have a high range like missiles but can be used for close encounters and in case you no longer have
missiles available. The damage caused by the Vulcan is less than that of a missile, so it can take a prolonged burst to
eliminate enemies. The Vulcan has endless blows.

When you are hit by an enemy missile, our plane will lose altitude until it crashes to the ground or explode in the air. If,
on the other hand, you are hit by enemy volleys of Vulcans or anti-aircraft shots, the plane will lose energy (top right) after
which you are shot down.
In some levels the word "BONUS" will appear flashing: in these cases you have to dodge the buildings and, if you get to
the bottom of the level dodging them all, you will receive an extra life; in case you crash into a building the level ends
immediately but the downed plane is not climbed from the total count of those available. After 250,000 points you receive
an extra life.

GUI
Clockwise starting from the upper left corner we have:
SCORE = It is the score that is increased every time you eliminate a nimic. The more points you make, the more you climb
in the standings.
HIT = They are the total number of enemies shot down. This value is reset every time you pass an end-of-level boss.
ENERGY = It is the energy of our plane that will descend when you are hit by gusts.
MISSILES = The remaining missiles: the small ones are the units, the largest ones are the dozens. Once finished you can
no longer shoot them.
LEVEL = The level you are playing.
SPEED = Is the speed at which the plane is flying. It is automatically set according to the level you are playing.
AIRPLANES = These are the remaining planes. Once finished it is "game over"
