1. Always choose fun, not fear.

We are beautiful just the way we are. ​So when we choose to wear makeup, it’s not about
hiding our so-called “flaws”​—or submitting to any “anti-aging” fears we have about our
appearance.

It’s about the complete opposite—it’s about fun.

Makeup is meant to be fun. It’s about expressing ourselves, in pleasurable ways that bring us
joy. (Remember joy is always attractive.)

When you’re choosing a new makeup or beauty routine, always look at the motivation
behind it: Is it fun or fear? ​Are you trying out a new mascara or lipstick or hair color because it
sounds fun? Because you’re excited to try it? If so, go for it!

If it’s not for fun, ask yourself: Why are you doing it? ​Why are you trying that new lotion or
concealer? It is because you’re afraid to show a certain feature (or reveal your age)? If so, we
suggest choosing something else that brings you pleasure.

2. Moisturizer, not foundation.

As you age, think about scaling back—rather than adding to—your makeup routine​.
