Week 3 – Lesson 2

Separating Awareness From That Which It

Is Aware Of
This video explores one of the crucial parts in the study of awareness and
the mind; the ability to separate awareness from that which it is aware. I’ll
also touch on why developing willpower and concentration is so important
for this to happen, and how the state of observation is attained.

Daily Exercise

In this week’s lesson I covered one of the most important concepts my guru taught me which is
“where awareness goes, energy flows”. Meditation is the practice of moving awareness to a refined
area of the mind. Your exercise for this week is to incorporate this into your daily life so you can
begin the process of learning how to do it and then eventually mastering it. Let’s begin simply.

I want you to download the PDF at the link below and print it out. On the first page of the PDF I
want you to list five positive areas of the mind that your awareness goes to on an average day. On
this same page also list five negative areas of the mind that your awareness goes to on an average
day. These have to be areas that they repeatedly go to on an everage day.

Let me give you an example of each to help you get a better understanding of what I am requesting.
In the case of a positive example you could think of an activity or a person that makes you happy.
For example, you could move your awareness to the area of the mind that you are in after you
exercise when you are experiencing a feeling of accomplishment and your body feels good. That’s
a positive area of the mind.

Another example could be a positive memory that brings you happiness such as the time you were
sitting at the beach watching the sunset on vacation and you felt a strong feeling of peace and
contentment. So essentially you are moving your awareness to the area of the mind that is peaceful
and content does strengthening those areas.

In the case of a negative example you could state something like “Worrying about my business”.
So the solution here is that every time your awareness goes to an area of the mind that worries
about your business you know that your energy is flowing there and strengthening that area. So
each time your awareness goes there you gently and lovingly bring it back to a positive area of the
mind. The longer you linger in a negative area of the mind the more energy flows there and the
more you strengthen that area of the mind.

What we are aiming to do here is to learn to direct our awareness to postive areas of our mind
hence we direct our energy to these areas as well. Where energy flows that area of the mind
becomes strengthened. So control where awareness goes so you can control where energy flows
so that you can control which areas of the mind you are strengthening.
