The Third Term Test
Part One: A) Comprehension.
A) Read the text carefully then do the activities, (11.5pts)

The biggest challenge that mankind is facing in this century is "global warming" and how to save
our earth from this biggest threat. Scientists had laid down the root cause for this situation as the increase
in the amount of carbon dioxide let out on the atmosphere by our industries and automobiles. If this is
going to continue, we will lose our land to oceans and the bad climate conditions may also lead to new
unknown diseases, which may challenge the medical world. Every individual can join hands in this
global mission on "How to save the earth from global warming".
Findings from a new study released last week prove that global warming is caused by human activity,
and not by natural environment factors. Researchers at Scripps Institute of Oceanography have found a
clear evidence of human produced warning in the world’s oceans that is likely to impact water resources
in regions around the globe.
Many world presidents have closed their ears to this fact so that they don’t have to limit their
economic activity or introduce expensive pollution controls. This is one of the reasons America has not
signed Kyoto Treaty of climate change. The US government prefers to believe global warming is a
natural phenomenon, caused by volcanoes and solar energy.
