s I write this, my newsfeed and the news are full of the terrible images from the war in
Ukraine. I, like many I suspect, am gripped by a sense of powerlessness and anxiety as
the terrible events unfold. War is a constant of human experience and magazines like this,
and indeed the hobby as a whole, depend upon it to some extent, but the immediacy of
the current events prompts horror and some reflection. Equally, like many, I have friends and
colleagues in Ukraine, and in Russia, and seldom does an issue of the magazine go by when we
do not include the work of a modeller from one of those nations. The global nature of our hobby
only underscores the tragedy of what is unfolding in Eastern Europe. My thoughts, and those of
all of us here at Guideline Publications, are with the people of Ukraine and especially with our
friends and partners there, but also with everyone, wherever and whoever they are, caught up in
this unnecessary and reckless war. We can only hope that sanity prevails. Like many others, we

Our content this month reminds us that war and suffering are omnipresent throughout history.
World War I is remembered this month as we look at the early history of American tanks in
our Armour in Profile feature. Two early American tanks are the subjects of build features from
José Brito and I. Together we explore the possibilities of 3D printing in armour modelling as
José tackles two 3D-printed Ford 3-Ton M1918 tanks and I present a 1/48-scale Mark VIII
Liberty tank. Staying with Quarterscale but moving to World War II, Jose Luis López builds
Tamiya’s Nashorn. Scratch building is rightly seen by many as the pinnacle of the hobby and
Roman Yarlykov returns to collaborate with his friend Igor Kuleshov to present a KV-4. Regular
contributor Ramón Segarra is back with Academy’s recent M4 Sherman Calliope, while Kevin
Ottens sets himself a wintery challenge with a BMP-T Terminator. Finally, Ralph Zwilling looks
at the different types of winter camouflage on show at NATO’s recent Allied Spirit exercises
held in southern Germany. Until next month, stay safe and happy modelling.

FC Modeltrend have released two versions of the Ford tank. Their first was a
more typical 3D-printed resin kit that needs assembling much like a traditional As with all kits, some parts can be enhanced or replaced with scratch-built

is necessary. Assembly is straightforward, but as the resin parts need to be
bonded with Superglue, it’s necessary to take care and avoid mistakes. Deluxe

designed and 3D-printed.
5
The components of the second kit must first be separated from the print 6
supports. These are very fragile and removing them is extremely easy and fast.
A precision cutter or a fine saw can be used for the task.
As you can see the detail on the
parts is superb and the ability of
