1. Define the terms ‘testing’ and ‘assessment’ and compare them. 5 points

Testing is the process to examin people’s ability or knowledge. Assessment is the process of
gathering, interpreting, and sometimes recording and using information about students' responses
to an educational task in order to provide the next learning step.

2. Define five different types and purposes of language tests. Which ones do you apply in your class and
why? Give relevant examples. 10 points
There are diognostic, achievement, proficiency, aptitude, diagnostic. When I was in an internship I used
many assessment types. One of them is achievement test. This is popular in the study which cover only
passed material of each unit. Of course, after each unit we have test to conclude it, but I always did my
own test. Due to my diploma paper the results of students was very important for me. Students also like it
to know levels how increased. It is designed to evaluate what students have learned and the skills
students have acquired over time. An achievement test is not designed to evaluate what students can
achieve, it is focused on what students have gained in knowledge, and the skills that you have gained over
time. The good thing about the achievement test is that it gives the educator and the parents the
opportunity to assess how well their word is doing in a field or at school.

3. What are the principles of assessment? Explain why it is important to follow them. 10 points

Validity, Washback, Reliable, Authentic, Practicality are 5 principles of assessment. Any

assessment information may be used for formative purposes. Teachers’ knowledge of each
learner is vital to ensure assessment is fit for purpose (valid), dependable (reliable) and
appropriate (fair). Furthermore, a learning system relies on an absolute belief that every learner
can improve, and on teachers, learners and partners.

4. Define Summative and formative assessment and give your examples. Provide examples from your own
experience as a teacher or as a learner? 10 points
While FA is the evaluation of learning as it takes place (e.g. quizzes), summative assessments
are evaluations of what a student has learned at the end of given semester. There are many ways
teacher can formative assess in the class, using everything from mini whiteboards, plicker and
other voting systems, rag cards, hands up and verbal responses. As learner formative assessment
is the best one for me that keep learning goals top of mind. So, students have a clear target to
work towards. And it helps to take responsibility for goals that creates self-regulated learners.

5 What are test specifications and why do you need them? 5 points
Test specifications spell out what you are attempting to assess. Specifications are often thought
of as being important in large scale testing. However, test specifications are also relevant to
classroom assessment. It can be written ocument, a set of instructions, related to test objectives.

6. What are the stages of designing listening and reading tests. What kind of tasks do you use in each stage of
designing them? 5 points
Pre, while, post stages for listening and reading. Pre reading I gave new voca about new topic while I check
their pronunciation, post reading I can check their understanding by giving T/F statements and so on.
Pre listening students just discuss the theme of the script what will be expected like this. While listening note –
taking, dictation, detailes are considered thoroughly and post listening will be done as summarizing,
discussing.

7. Define holistic and analytic scales for assessing productive skills. Discuss advantages and disadvantages of
each scale. 5 points
Holistic scales single criteria rubrics (one-dimensional) used to assess participants' overall
achievement on an activity or item based on predefined achievement levels;
Analytic two-dimensional rubrics with levels of achievement as columns and assessment criteria as
rows. Allows you to assess participants' achievements based on multiple criteria using a single rubric.

8. Discuss types of feedback you learned in the classroom. Which ones do you use in your class? Give
relevant examples from your experience.
5 points
Feedback are divided into 4 types:
Motivational and Evaluative are summative
Descriptive and Effective are formative

Descriptive helps us student how to correct their reasoning. And using this type works as indicator what the
student to be improved.
