Project 2: Planting of Vegetables

❖ WEEK 1

On October 8, the materials were gathered to prepare for the vegetable plant seed
box. The seed box used was a recycled egg rack and the potting mix was infused with
organic fertilizer.
The seeds bought from the local market were bitter gourd/ampalaya, Chinese
cabbage/pechay, kangkong, and lettuce. Meanwhile, the onion bulb, and bell pepper
and tomato seeds were collected from the fruits themselves and washed properly.

The seeds were planted at the same day in the makeshift seed box and given
enough water. They were then placed near a window with ample sunlight to boost
chances of germination.
❖ WEEK 2

The first signs of germination were observed after one week, specifically the bell
pepper and onion seedlings, as observed in the picture.

❖ WEEK 3
On week 3, more signs of growth were observed. It can be seen in the picture that
almost all the seedlings had sprouted except for the bitter gourd / ampalaya.
The remaining seeds were replanted on that same week on black plastic pots and
brought outside to get more sunlight. Unfortunately, on its 4 th week, Tropical Cyclone
“Paeng” had hit the eastern part of the country. I am from Leyte and when I went home
for All Saints’ Day, I brought the plants with me. Last October 28, 2022, floods occurred
in our locality and sadly, I lost most of my vegetable plants.

❖ November 12, 2022

This picture shows the current state of my vegetable plants. I was fortunate enough
that five of them were in the elevated part of my mother’s garden. What was left of them
were 2 pots of onion plants, 2 pots of lettuce plants, and a pot of the water spinach /
kangkong. I attempted to replant more vegetable plants after recovering from the typhoon,
but to no avail, there were no signs of growth because the rest of the week was rainy in
my hometown.
