SPIRIT STUCK: 1471
HAUNTS: Wakefield Tower
FRIGHTFUL FACT: After losing his throne to Edward IV during
the Wars of the Roses, Henry was imprisoned
at the Tower and died under very mysterious
circumstances. The rumour spread that he
was stabbed to death whilst praying in this
very tower.
FATE: Murdered
HEW DRAPER
SPIRIT STUCK: 1560
HAUNTS:
FRIGHTFUL FACT:
Salt Tower
Hew, an Inn Keeper from Bristol, was arrested
for conjuring evil spells against Bess of
Hardwick, a very wealthy lady in the court
of Elizabeth I. He denied the charges against
him. Take a close look at the engraving he left
on the wall of this Tower. Do you think he was
telling the truth?
FATE: Unknown
ALICE WOLF
SPIRIT STUCK: 1534
HAUNTS: Cradle Tower, Water Lane and near the
Lower Salt Tower
FRIGHTFUL FACT: Known pirate, mischief-maker, murderer,
and thief, Alice was imprisoned here. After
befriending her prison guards, Alice became
the only woman ever recorded to escape from
the Tower. However, she was soon recaptured
and sentenced to a gruesome watery death.
Her ghost has been spotted near where she
escaped, but watch out if you find her, she
causes trouble wherever she goes!
FATE: Executed by drowning
ANNE BOLEYN
SPIRIT STUCK: 1533
HAUNTS: Water Lane, Tower Green and the Ravens’ Arches
FRIGHTFUL FACT: Accused of plotting against her husband,
Henry VIII, Anne was imprisoned here.
She was kept in the same Royal Apartment
where, just three years before, she had
celebrated her coronation. Reliving her final
days, Anne's ghost can be seen awaiting her
terrifying fate. Does she sense that the
executioner with his sword will soon be here?
FATE: Beheaded
 EVERARD DIGBY
SPIRIT STUCK: 1605
HAUNTS: Broad Arrow Tower
FRIGHTFUL FACT: Everard was part of a group of men who planned
to blow up the Houses of Parliament. This
became known as the Gunpowder Plot and is
one of the most famous attempts to kill a king
in British history! Unfortunately for Everard,
the plot failed, he was caught and ended up as
a prisoner in this very tower.
FATE: Hanged, drawn and quartered
MARGERY JOURDEMAYNE
SPIRIT STUCK: 1441
HAUNTS: Martin Tower
FRIGHTFUL FACT:
Margery was believed to have magical powers
and went by the mysterious name 'the Witch of
Eye'. She was accused of meddling in witchcraft
and plotting to kill Henry VI. Margery was
imprisoned here before being burned at the
stake, 581 years ago this very week! Has she now
returned to clear her name?
FATE: Burned at the stake
LEONORA COHEN
SPIRIT STUCK: 1913
HAUNTS: Upper Bowyer Tower
FRIGHTFUL FACT: Leonora was a suffragette who fought for
women’s right to vote but many people didn’t
agree with her. She resorted to direct action
to get her message across. She came to the
Tower with a metal bar hidden in her coat
and smashed the display cases in the Jewel
House. After being arrested, Leonora became
known as the ‘Tower Suffragette’.
FATE: Lived until the age of 105!
WILLIAM DAVIDSON
SPIRIT STUCK: 1820
HAUNTS: Beauchamp Tower
FRIGHTFUL FACT: William and his friends joined a plot to kill
government ministers as they ate their dinner
during an important meeting. It was known
as the ‘Cato Street Conspiracy’. However, one of
the plotters was a police spy who had faked the
government dinner as a trap. William was
imprisoned at the Tower and found guilty of high
treason. He was sentenced to a horrific death.
Why has William come back, and what is he
trying to prove?
FATE: Hanged and beheaded
 GEORGE PLANTAGENET,
DUKE OF CLARENCE
SPIRIT STUCK: 1478
HAUNTS: Lower Bowyer Tower
FRIGHTFUL FACT: George was the brother of Edward IV.
Unfortunately, he didn’t like his brother’s wife,
Elizabeth Woodville. When George’s own wife
died, he blamed Elizabeth, accusing her of
witchcraft. He was imprisoned at the Tower
and found guilty of treason. Rumour has it
George's chosen method of execution was
drowning in a barrel of malmsey wine, a
favourite of the Queen.

GRUFFYDD AP LLYWELYN
SPIRIT STUCK: 1244
HAUNTS: Near the Lower Bowyer Tower
FRIGHTFUL FACT: After invading Wales, Henry III imprisoned
Gruffydd here at the Tower. Desperate to
return to Wales to reclaim his kingdom,
Gruffydd attempted to escape. Using an
improvised rope made from sheets and
clothes, he lowered himself from his window,
but the rope broke. He fell to his death. Look
out for Gruffydd as he tries to come up with
a better escape plan!
FATE: Died while trying to escape

SPIRIT STUCK: 1600s
HAUNTS: The White Tower
FRIGHTFUL FACT: These kings, queens and servants all had their
portraits painted during the happier times of
their lives. This Halloween their spirits have
returned, and some have become stuck inside
their portraits, reliving their grisly and
gruesome deaths.

FERNANDO BUSCHMANN
SPIRIT STUCK: 1915
HAUNTS: Old Hospital Block
FRIGHTFUL FACT: Fernando was accused of being a spy during
World War I and was imprisoned here. Even
though he denied the charges, he was found
guilty and sentenced to death. As a last request,
he was given his violin which he played all
through the night, before facing his death at
dawn. It is said he haunts this part of the Tower.

 WALTER RALEIGH ELIZABETH ‘BESS’
SPIRIT STUCK: 1612

HAUNTS: Lower Bloody Tower

FRIGHTFUL FACT: Raleigh was a favourite of Elizabeth I but
wasn’t very good at staying out of trouble.
Over his lifetime he found himself imprisoned
at the Tower three times. While imprisoned,
Raleigh grew exotic plants from seeds he had
gathered on his travels. When James I's son,
Prince Henry, fell ill, Raleigh tried his hardest
to save him by brewing elixirs and medicines
from his gardens. Could Raleigh save the prince
from his deadly illlness?
FATE: Beheaded
RALEIGH
SPIRIT STUCK: 1618
HAUNTS: The Bloody Tower Garden
FRIGHTFUL FACT: 'Bess' Raleigh was so distraught when her
husband, Walter, was executed that she carried
his head in a velvet bag until she died. They
had married in secret, against the wishes of
Elizabeth I and so they were imprisoned
together at the Tower of London. Bess never
got over losing her husband and so has returned
to a place that made her happy. Have you seen
her wandering in Walter’s herb garden clutching
something in her hand?
FATE: Died aged 82

SPIRIT STUCK: c.1483
HAUNTS: Upper Bloody Tower

and his younger brother were sent to live at the
Tower, but shortly afterwards their uncle was See you again soon!
crowned King Richard III. What makes this tale
so spooky is that Edward and his brother then
mysteriously disappeared never to be seen alive
again! Did Richard murder them? Or did they
escape? Over 500 years later, we still don’t have
the answer.
