Description of the Task:
The United Nations Human Rights Council is actively searching for experts in their field to help guide UN resources to
communities that need them most, based on the UN Sustainable Goals programme. Your task is to research a
human rights violation related to these goals and prepare a persuasive presentation urging the Human Rights
Council to take action.

Your presentation must include accurately sourced facts about the human rights violation you select, which includes
referencing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. You should also reference the UN Sustainable Development
Goals.
Each presentation must be a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 6
minutes in length and contain visuals (i.e. PowerPoint, Prezi, or other medium
approved by your teacher). A typed and annotated copy of your speech will
be due prior to the presentation, with your claim, persuasive devices, and a
counter-argument clearly annotated. Include a Works Cited at the end of the
presentation.

Your Role:
As a human rights defender, you must deliver your persuasive presentation
with urgency and interest. The Human Rights council has limited resources and must strategically select where the
greatest aid is required. This means your presentation must go beyond informing the audience by effectively
persuading them to take action.

Your Audience:
The class will act as the Human Rights Council. Every student must listen attentively to each presentation and
participate by evaluating the content and persuasiveness of the presentation.
