Activity 8 (written)

Discuss sensively the nature, similarities, and differences between assessment and evaluation
and when these two are given to the students.
Cite your best practices in assessing and evaluating student’s performance both written and
practical, and why?

Assessment is a systematic process of gathering, evaluating, and applying information about

someone or something to make adjustments when necessary.
In general, assessment is a continuous, interactive process involving the assessor and the
assessee. The method tries to establish the effectiveness of the assessee's overall performance
and identify opportunities for improvement. Setting goals, collecting information (both
qualitative and quantitative), and using the information to improve quality are all part of the
process.
To put it simply, it is process-oriented and is used to provide feedback (positive and negative)
on performance and areas for improvement for the students.
On the other hand, when we say "evaluation," we mean a systematic and objective process
of measuring or monitoring students, usually governed by specified standards or by
comparison. We determine the worth or relevance of a person, completed project, process, or
product based on their performance. Its goal is to determine the extent to which the student
has developed competence in initiating, organizing, and enhancing his day-to-day work, as
well as analyze his strengths and limitations to provide further guidance.
This is often used in determining the extent to which objectives are achieved by the students.

In my experience, I tend to use both methods in written and practical ways on the same topic
or lesson. For instance, in physical education, I use practical assessment to assess students’
proper execution of the basic steps I taught them. After that, I use the written assessment that
lets them right down their experiences and their take on the dance lesson and then shift to
practical evaluation to evaluate students’ dance performances of their interpretation and
artistic usage of the basic steps with the correct execution as well.
The written and practical ways of assessing and evaluating students' performance are
common, and they have been proven to be effective ways of identifying and measuring
students' learning.
