A stratum below those who are partners or associates in
the large national law firms are those who serve as attorneys
for large corporations. Large corporate firms have various de-
partments that specialize in tax law, real estate law, banking
law, intellectual property, and labor law. Such corporations
are hiring their own salaried attorneys as in-house counsels.
In these corporations, lawyers largely perf01111 the role of
advisors, organizers and negotiators in business matters and
draft the necessary documents related to business deals.
When it is necessary to represent the company in criminal
matters that the government has filed against it, there are
specialists in these areas as well.

the purpo时 S) of. .

7. 2 PROVIDED THAT. . .
Provided that. . .
相当于 with the exception of. . .

Provided tha! the acceptance of rent or mesne profits by
the Landlord after the expiration of the term of the tenancy
hereby created shall not be deemed to operate as a waiver or
breach of any of the terms hereof nor as a new periodic ten-
ancy by way of holding over or otherwise. A new Tenancy

Provided tha! a magistrate shall not hear an application

under this subsection unless reasonable notice of the appli臼
tion has been given by the Commissioner to the person who
surrendered the d臼ument. (La ws of Hong Kong , Cap.
201 , Prevention of Bribery Ordinance , Art. 17A[ 6 J)

用 provided that...
provided that. . . . .当 if
因为 if 与
及 when , in case , in the event that 等等,但可以取代 but 以提高
甚至 provided , however , that 都被一并滥用。

to. . . , for the purposes o f. . .
section/subsection 之类的法律或法律条款的指代词,对应的汉语

7.4 SAVE... / EXCEPT (FOR). . .

当卫e as is provided in this Ordinance , no claim within
the jurisdiction of the Board shall be actionable in any court.
(La悦目 01 Hong Kong , Cap. 453 , Minor Employment
Claims Adjudication 胁ard Ordinance , Art. 5[2])

主旦e as is provided in this section , nothing in this Ordi-
nance shall require the disclosure by a legal adviser of any
privileged inforrnation ,∞mmunication , b∞k , document or
other article. (La ws of Hong Kong , Cap. 201 , Prevention
of Bribery Ordinance , Art. 14E[ 4])

5旦e under and in accordance with the provisions of this
section no action shall lie in any civil ∞urt against a magis-
trate for any act done in a matter over which by law he has
no jurisdiction or in which he has exceeded his jurisdiction.
(La ws of Hong Kong , Cap. 227 , Magistrates Ordinance ,
Art.12 6[ 3])

insured amount is paid , the insurer shall acquire the full right
to the subject matter insured. In the case of under-insur-
ance , the insurer shall acquire the right to the subject matter
insured in the proportion that the insured amount bears to
the insured value. (Maritime Code 01 the Peo.ρle's Reρublic

(ïbid. Art. 207)
E旦旦t 臼 provided in Art icles 208 and 209 of this
Code , .

事实上, save/except as (is) provided/stipulated 可以用另→个

unless otherwise provided/stipulated

7. 5 IN RESPECT OF. . .
常丰富,如 in connection with , in relation to , relating 等等。
之的则是 in r臼pect of 。

(consensuaI contract and reaI contract) 等。
合同 (contract for construction project) 、技术合同( technology
venture contract) 、股权转让合同 (contract on assignment of equity

writing between the parties hereto( 除双方另有书面协议夕卡), unless

而 in case of , in the event of , in ∞n徒刑ence of 等引导

In the event the Buyer does not fumish the seller with
shipping instructions on or before August 17 , 1987 , the
Seller may at his option cancel this ∞ntract and demand the
Buyer to pay any d缸nages he has sustained on account of
such failure of the Buyer to give such instructions.

In case no settlement can be reached , the dispute shall
then be submitted to China Intemational E∞nomic and
Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) for arbitration in
ac∞rdance with its rules in effect at the time of applying for
arbitration.
