Project

Submission Deadline: 29/12/2022, Thursday, until 17:00.

Term Project Topic: Image Compression Application.

The research of such applications (which uses DCT, DFT, Wavelet Transform, ... etc.) that reflect the
current audited environment to carry out practical research can be little difficult sometimes. However,
over time many different modelling approaches have been presented and developed, each with different
characteristics, different uses, different strengths and weaknesses.
I expect a brief well written report with references. The report should give an introduction to the
problem, a description of the solution and any relevant theory, simulation results, and conclusions. I
expect that you will read the current literature for your application and that it will be correctly and
completely cited in a reference list. You may use any programming language such as Matlab, Phton,
C++, and so on and code should be turned in via an electronic appendix in the submission as well.
Sample Template
1. Introduction
1.1. Giving definition of Image Compression
1.2. Discuss the problems in Image Compression Applications
1.3. Literature Review of the Methods and Models
1.4. Discuss the best models which provides better results in the evaluation
2. A description of the solution and any relevant theory.
3. Simulation Results and Software
4. Conclusions

When you read articles or reports, keep the following in mind

 What is the main contribution of the paper?

 Is this important, why?
 Is this a theoretical contribution to some fundamental problems in Image CompressionDe-noising
Application?
 What was the main insight in getting the result?
 What is not clear to you?
 What did the authors not do, and you regard important?
 What are the most important assumptions are they limiting?
 What are the possible applications suggested in the paper?
 How does this relate to other things we have seen?
 What extensions does this suggest? Can you suggest some project idea based around the ideas in this
paper?

Grading Methodlogy:

1. 15% Abstract, Introduction, Conclusion

2. 15% The general structure of Report (Format, Labeling, Figure, Referencing)
3. 20% Research Methodology
4. 50% Theoretical and Technical Understanding & Discussion with Simulation Results

Projects must be made individually. Cheating is a behavior that requires disciplinary investigation.
Plagiarism will be checked and projects with more than 20% similarity will be considered unsuccessful.
Note: You can use the Course Project Preparetion document which is given in the moodle course page
to write your Project. You must save your Word document such as 154112ECE408Prj1Ahmet and then
upload to the system.
