⁘ ◜ WHAT IS INFORMAL LETTER ( INTRODUCTION )◞

Informal letters are written to friends, parents, penpals, for personal issues. They are also

cold personal or private letter.

⁘ ◜ FEATURES OF INFORMAL LETTER◞

The features of informal letter are:

* ◜The address or heading: ◞

It is whole address of the letter-writer, it is written on the top-right corner of your

paper. It can be written in slant or straight method helps the receiver to know where the

letter from and be able to send a reply when necessary.

* ◜Date: ◞

It is written for reference it answers the question “ When is the letter written ? “ we

can write it like this: 26th April, 2006

* ◜Greeting or Salutation: ◞

It draws the reader attention. It can be:

Dear Louis,

Dear David,

NB: Don’t forget the comma after the salutation

* ◜The Body/ Content:

It is written in the three paragraphs:

- The first paragraph refers to the past correspondence or to the reason of writing

- The second paragraph or additional information

- The third paragraph must be the wishes

* ◜Subscription: ◞

It is always put in the right hand corner under the body. We can use:

Your sincerely,

Ever Yours,

This is always followed by a comma.

* ◜Signature:◞

The signature is not all that important in friendly letter, but the name is very important. It

is written for identification.

NB: Never sign your own name at the examination so is your own address

It is written to praise ( lover ) someone for this achievement ( exploit )

2. ◜Letter of thank◞

It is written to thank somebody for his or her gift present, advice, help…

* This steps are followed:

- Express your happiness…

- Say how useful you find the gift

* These are some useful expression:

- I am very grateful to you for…

- I am very delighted…

This type of letter is written to someone who has a miss for time ( for instance, if someone

last a member of this family ), the following steps should be followed ;

* source of information, you must tell where you got the information

* sympathy, you should show sympathy to the person

* help, Express your availability to tell to the person
