The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974, and Protocol of 1988

Adoption: The 1st version of SOLAS was adopted at a conference of 13 countries, held in London in 1914, following the sinking
of the TITANIC in 1912.

2nd version of SOLAS entered in force in 1933.


3rd version of SOLAS entered in force in 1952.
4th version of SOLAS entered in force in 1965.
5th adopted in 1974, and entered into force on 25 May 1980. It has since been amended twice by means of protocols.
