Information about “small” and general recognition of previous studies

A: For applicants for study within the admission procedure at VSB-TUO (the procedure in charge of
the Department of Study Affairs of the faculty, where you are applying for studies) – it means that
you apply for studies and your previous education is evaluated within the admission process at the
faculty, where you are applying for studies – the fee for so called „small” recognition is 600,- CZK and
you won´t get any recognition certificate in the end.
Results of “small” recognition are valid only for the admission procedure for given academic year
and only for admission procedure at VŠB – TU Ostrava.

B: General recognition of foreign higher education in the Czech Republic (Regional authority is in
charge with recognition of secondary education; Ing. Stanislava Kebova is in charge with this
procedure for bachelor, follow-up master or doctoral study programmes) – it means that you apply
for studies and you must ask for the recognition certificate within an independent recognition
procedure – the fee for the general recognition is 3000 CZK and you will get a certificate generally
valid for the whole Czech republic in the end.

Documents uploaded to online application are needed only for Admission procedure.
Documents for “small” or general recognition (originals or hard notarized copies – not the
xerox copies) should be sent in a printed form with required legalization according
recognition procedure.
Verification of the authenticity of the signatures and stamps on original
education documents

The way of verifying the authenticity of signatures and stamps on the original diploma depends on
the country where the applicant has completed his foreign education or where the relevant diploma
has been issued.

The validation method can be divided into groups (under existing international treaties):

 Without validation: With the below-listed states, the Czech Republic has signed a bilateral legal aid
agreement – validation of signatures and stamp marks are not required. If the applicant presents
copies of such documents, they must be an officially certified copy made out by a Czech or foreign
notary, the Czech embassy authority abroad or made out through the Czech Point service.
It concerns these states: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Belgium, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Bulgaria, Montenegro, France, Georgia, Yemen, Croatia, Korea (DPRK), Cuba, Cyprus, Kyrgyzstan,
Hungary, Macedonia/FYROM, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Austria, Romania, Russia Federation,
Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Syria, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.

 Apostille: The state in question is a signatory to the multilateral convention on the simplification of
the verification of foreign authentic instruments (Hague Convention) – The authenticity of signatures
and stamps on original diplomas issued in that state must be verified in the form of a so-called "
Apostille. The Apostille is issued by the designated authority of the State (the so-called Apostille
office) in which the diploma was awarded.
It concerns these states: Albania, Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia,
Australia,  Azerbaijan,  Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Botswana, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Cook Islands, China – only Hong Kong and
Macao, Denmark, Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe (from 15th July 2008), Dominica,
Dominican Republic (verification by apostille clause from 30th August 2009), Ecuador, Estonia,  Fiji,
Finland, France and its territory (i.e. Franch Polynesia, Franch territory of Affars a Issa, Guadelupe,
Guyana, Comoros Islands, Martinique, New Caledonia, Réunion, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Wallis
and Futuna),  Grenada  (from 7th April 2002 -  until this date it is kept under Great Britain), Georgia,
Honduras,  Croatioa,  India, Ireland, Island, Italy, Israel, Japan, JAR, Kazakhstan,  Colombia, Republic
of Korea, Cyprus, Lesotho, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg,  Hungary, Malawi, 
Malta,   Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Moldova, Monaco, Mongolia (verification by apostille
clause from 31st December 2009), Namibia, Germany, Niue, The Netherlands and its territories
(i.e.  Netherlands Antilles, Aruba), Norway, New Zealand, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Austria,
Romania, Russia, Greece, Salvador, Samoa, San Marino, Seychelles, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and
Montenegro, Surinam, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and Grenadines, Swaziland,
Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tonga,  Trininad and Tobago, Turkey, USA and their territory (i.e.
American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands of the United States),
Ukraine, Great Britain and its territories (i.e. Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey, Isle of Man, Anguilla,
Bermuda, Brititish Antarctic Territory, British Virgins Islands, British Solomon Islands, Cayman Islands,
Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Saint Helena, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands,
Turks and Caicos  Islands,  Vanuatu  and  Venezuela.

 Higher verification of foreign documents (superlegalization): Other countries – The authenticity of
signatures and stamps on original diplomas issued in other states must be verified in the form of a
so-called ' Higher verification of foreign documents (In accordance with the provisions of § 90 para. 3
of the Higher Education Law), e. Diploma verification carried out first by the State Department of
Foreign Affairs, in which the foreign university has its seat (or eventually by a competent foreign
authority) and subsequently by the relevant representative body of the Czech Republic for the
country in which the foreign university has its seat.

It is also possible to submit certified copies (made by a Czech or foreign notary, at the Czech Embassy
office abroad or prepared by the Czech Point service) of the documents verified in the required
manner (see above).
