Rotary drilling bits usually are classified according to their
design as “fixed cuter bits (drag bits) “ and “Rolling cutter bits”

Fixed bits:
PDC Drilling Bits Type (Polycrystalline Diamond
Compact)
Drill blanks consist of a layer of polycrystalline, man-made
diamond, and cemented tungsten carbide produced as an
integral blank by a high-temperature, high-pressure technique

These bits have the same advantages and disadvantages as

natural diamond bits but use small discs of synthetic diamond
to provide the scraping cutting surface. The small discs may be
manufactured in any size and shape and are not sensitive to
failure along cleavage planes as with natural diamond.
TSP Drilling Bits Type (Thermally Stable
Polycrystalline):

These bits are manufactured in a similar fashion to PDC

bits but are tolerant of much higher temperatures than
PDC bits.

Rolling Cutter Bits(Roller-Cone Bits):

A roller-cone bit is a drill bit used for drilling through rock

Each bit has three rotating cones and each one will rotate on
its own axis during drilling. While the bits are fixed to the
drilling rigs, the rotation of the drill pipe will be in a clockwise
direction and the roller cones are rotated in an anti-clockwise
direction.
a tool designed to crush rock efficently while incurring a
minimal amount of wear on the cutting surfaces. As the
drillstring is rotated, the bit cones roll along the bottom of the
hole, crushing the rock immediately below and arround the bit
booth.
There are two types of roller cone bits:

Steel insert bits: Carbide insert bits:

For soft formation For hard formation
Diamond Drilling Bits :

The diamond’s natural wear resistance makes it competitive in

today’s drilling practices, even at their higher prices. Diamond
drilling bits type are used in conventional rotary, turbine, and
coring operations in oil and gas wells.

Like any other product, diamond bit designs and

applications must be understood to obtain optimum
results at economical rates. The combination of fluid
hydraulics blended with the selection and arrangement of
diamonds enables this goal to be met in most formation
types.
