MEMORANDUM
SEA COMMAND INSIGNIA OF EXECUTIVE BRANCH OFFICERS

1. Executive branch officers who are performing Sea Command achieve the highest degree of
professionalism and competency. Commanding of major vessels is a great opportunity and career
milestone for the Senior Executive officers in Sri Lanka Navy. In recognition, Sea Command Insignia
will appraise as a catalytic and an intrinsic motivation factor for the Executive officers of SLN.

Eligibility

2. The officers of Executive branch shall be eligible for Sea Command Insignia with following
fulfillments;

a. Permanent Award

(1) Minimum threshold period of 10 months in Command onboard


AOPVs/OPVs/FMVs/LSTs/FGBs (Sea Command onboard Jetliner and A543 also
considered) in Captain Rank.

(2) Total Sea Command period of minimum 04 years.

b. Temporary Award
Officers presently holding sea command onboard.

3. Officers who have considered a ‘Sea Command Completed’ upon their submissions without
tangible experience of total 10 months tenure onboard AOPVs/OPVs/FMVs/LSTs/FGBs in Captain
rank will not be considered for Sea Command Insignia.

4. The Sea Command Insignia to be fabricated with Brass material and plated in Gold colour.

5. The height and the breath of the standard Sea Command Insignia to be 1.5” X 1.2” and
miniature to be 0.8” X 0.6”.

6. A Lion holding a sword signifies courage and pride. A Star denotes highest professional
ability on Command aspects and endless knowledge. Anchor represents the holding power and the
strength of character. Wheel denotes Steered on correct course.

Wearing

7. When entitled to wear the Sea Command Insignia, it is to be worn as follows;

a. Sea Command Insignia – Standard.

(1) No. 5, 5A and Red Sea Rig - Immediately below the lower edge of the colour
bar on shirt pocket.

(2) No. 1 and No. 2 - Immediately below the lower edge of the Medal
on shirt pocket.

(3) No. 6 and Camouflage - On shirt upper left pocket flap.

b. Sea Command Insignia – Miniature.

Mess Jacket (White) - Immediately below the lower edge of medals


on left lapel.

Procedure for apply

8. Officers who are eligible for Sea Command Insignia as per para 2 ‘a’ are to forward the
application at annex ‘C’ through respective AAs/COs to DGA.

9. Officers presently holding Sea Command onboard are to wear Sea Command Insignia by
appointment and to hand over same to his successor when relinquishing appointment.

Updating Records

10. DGA to select qualified officers after scrutinizing of applications received from applicant
officers and same to be promulgated by Navy General in every quarter for entering/updating of HRIS.
