Questions

1)review all theories in ethics and state the criticism of each theory.

2)choose a company or business entity, identify the unethical practices and recommend measures to
improve on ethical standards.

Ethics is a set of principles or standards of human conduct that govern the behaviour of individual or
organization.

The following are theories in ethics.

Deontological Ethics

Immanuel Kant's deontological ethics, sometimes referred to as the ethics of duty, is the theory that
actions are not right or wrong based on their result but rather because they are inherently good or evil.
The computer component manufacturer Intel provides an example of deontological ethics in business
through an unusual human resources practice that allows some employees to rotate through up to five
of the company's departments every 16 to 24 months. This program is provided for the sole purpose of
being good to employees and a sincere desire on the part of the company to see its workers happy. The
company received no direct benefit from the program. of modern business ethical principles

Utilitarianism

Jeremy Bentham's utilitarianism has its foundations in the belief that being ethical means to do the
greatest good for the greatest number of people. Several years ago, a pharmaceutical company released
the drug Accutane as a means for treating severe acne in young men. The drug was very effective, but it
was also known to cause life-threatening birth defects if pregnant women were exposed to the drug.

The ethical principle of utilitarianism states that is ethically acceptable to release a drug like Accutane
with appropriate warning. The number of young men who will experience relief from the skin condition
will outweigh the few cases in which an individual will fail to adhere to the warning. All pharmaceuticals
have side effects, but utilitarianism provides moral permission for their distribution anyway because the
sum of their contributions are argued to be far greater than the negative
Morality

Morality ethics describe the conditions and actions that people perceive as being good or bad because
of their own internal values. In the last few years, the pharmaceutical company Pfizer has taken a moral
position that their corporate mission is life rather than death. Although lethal injection is a legal form of
judicial homicide in numerous states, Pfizer has taken the position that selling drugs for executions
violates their corporate values. Pfizer's decision to refuse the sale of drugs for lethal injection is an
example of moral ethics because this business decision is the result of Rights Theory

Rights theory is a philosophical framework that focuses on the inherent rights of individuals. The basis of
this theory is the belief that all human beings have certain privileges and entitlements, regardless of
nationality, race, or gender. This theory holds that people have the right to pursue their happiness and
well-being as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others.

Business practices often apply rights theory in ways that are both legally mandated and voluntarily
adopted. An example of a legally mandated right is the right to a safe working environment, regulated
by law in many jurisdictions. For instance, the government agency OSHA in the United States requires
basic safety standards for workplaces. On the other hand, some businesses also often voluntarily adopt
policies that protect employees' rights, such as anti-discrimination policies, grievance procedures, and
whistle-blower protectionthe personal value of Pfizer's leaders.

Justice theory

Justice theory is a philosophical framework for ethics focused on providing fair and equitable
distribution of goods, services, and rights. John Rawls proposed this theory. Rawls argued that justice is
based on the concept of a "veil of ignorance."

2) *unethical business practices is anything that falls below minimum standards for business code of
conduct. This includes any behaviour that are widely accepted as being morally wrong and lead to the
mistreatment of people, animals or the environment.

Amour Mezem company Ltd is an established transportation company, providing transportation and
logistics services to 13 destinations in Cameroon with busses and coaches serving a variety of
communities their needs. This business have some unethical practices which are;

False advertisements. There are huge differences between using marketing to point a product or
service in the best possible light and outright lying. This company make false advertisements about their
buss the claim to have first class service( VIP) but whereas their busses are old and they are not different
from other busses and the price for the vip is different

whereas they use the same busses.

Recommendation in other for the business to make profit and remain in business,it should stop
misleading advertisements and renew their busses with this measure it will help to increase the ethical
standard of the company.

Hidden terms in user agreement.

In this case when traveling with amour Mezem they assure you that they will only stop if there is any
check point but they end up stopping on the way to collect other passengers. This traveling agency are
now becoming nor of taxifair where you carry passengers from one place to another.

In other to stop this bad practice they company should be truthful.

Poor working conditions.

Amour Mezem use old buss which stress workers in the sense that the busses often get bad on the way
and when it happened the driver will be forstreated and stress up because passengers will be
complaining not to the employer but employees.

To stop this unethical practices the company should renew their busses in other not to stress the driver
and customers and they should also provide a good resting place for the employees especially those
working in the night.

Improper use of the company asset.

Some employees use companies asset fit their own benefits. This happens when a driver decides to use
the company bus for his own personal use which may cause damage to the company property.

Corruption. Corruption is practices in amour Mezem in the sense that after paying your ticket some
employee still ask you to pay an extra amount of money for your lockagge.

In such situation the company should sum up all the money so that if a customer is to pay higher he or
she should be aware.

Conflicts of interest. This is a situation where the employee issue the same seat number to different
passengers which caused conflicts among customers.

In other to resolve this problem the organization should verify their ticket before issuing it to customers.
