Power Driven Vessel Crossing From Starboard Side of Own Vessel

IDENTIFY :Target vessel is a power driven vessel 50 m or more in length, underway , port side on,
four points on starboard bow of own vessel
2. DETERMINE ROC. After taking a series of compass bearings of target vessel, it is established
that compass bearing is not changing appreciably and range is decreasing.
3. ESTABLISH RESPONSIBILITY:As per Rule 15, own vessel is give-way and target vessel is stand
on.
4. ACTION: Make a broad alteration of the course to starboard and pass well clear of the vessel.
As far as practicable, avoid crossing ahead.
5. SOUND SIGNAL: One short blast

1. IDENTIFY :Target vessel is a power driven vessel 50 m or more in length, underway , seen
from starboard side on, four points on port bow of own vessel
2. DETERMINE ROC. After taking a series of compass bearings of target vessel, it is established
that compass bearing is not changing appreciably and range is decreasing.
3. ESTABLISH RESPONSIBILITY:As per Rule 15, own vessel is the stand -on vessel and target
vessel is give way vessel.
4. ACTION: As stand on vessel, I will maintain my course and speed. However, I will continue to
monitor the situation.
If the target vessel is not taking action and getting closer, I will sound the doubt signals as to
know her intention.
If the target vessel is still not taking any action and getting even closer, I will take the action
by sounding one short blast and alter course to starboard to take a round turn and pass
astern of the target vessel.
As per Rule 17, I will not alter course to port for a vessel on my own port side.
5. SOUND SIGNAL: To attract attention, sound at least five short and rapid blasts. At night use
Aldis lamp to draw her attention.
