Food and drinks in English speaking countries and The Czech Republic

Food is an indispensable part of our life. So, I would like to tell you more about food
in English speaking countries and The Czech Republic.
British have six meals of the day: breakfast or brunch (a meal eaten in the late
morning, instead of breakfast and lunch), elevenses (a morning snack), lunch, tea, supper and
dinner. Let’s start with breakfast. A full English breakfast might not be the healthiest way to
start the day, but certainly it is the tastiest. A full English breakfast usually includes
sausages, bacon, fried tomatoes, baked beans, eggs and buttered toast. People do not eat this
every day obviously, otherwise their cholesterol will be higher than a kite. So, the British
like to begin the day with a glass of juice, a bowl of cereal followed buttered toast and
marmalade. For lunch there is nothing more convenient than a sandwich. The most popular
sandwich is BLT, made with bacon, lettuce and tomato. Afternoon tea consists of scones
with a drink of tea. Scone is extremely popular in UK. It is pastry with cream on the top and
jam. The main debate that British have about scones is to put the jam or cream first? For
dinner British people eat a roast dinner. So popular that the French call the English Rostbif.
It is served with roasted vegetables, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, and covered in gravy. If
you ever come to Britain, you will see restaurants called carvery and these are places where
you can go to get your roast dinner. Also, they have fish and chips for dinner. Every town in
the UK has some kind of chippy (the chippy is the place where you go to get your fish and
chips). The fish is usually cod or haddock which is deep fried in batter. Served with chips
and mushy peas. What about drinks, a classic British cocktail is gin and tonic. This cocktail
originated from India during the occupation by the British in the 19 th century, when quinine
was used to prevent malaria.
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of American cuisine is classic like
burgers, fried potatoes, chicken, hot dogs and pancakes like many things American. This is
particularly true, but I will tell you how things really are. Americans have six meals a day:
breakfast, lunch, snack time, happy hour, dinner and midnight snack Let’s start with
breakfast. A typical American breakfast is hearty. In the USA, breakfast is the main meal of
the day alongside dinner. It includes a breakfast omelette, eggs with bacon, ham or pork
sausage and fried potatoes, pancakes and toast with butter and jam. Americans can eat
sandwich or salad for lunch. Also, they can go to KFC. At 3pm-4pm working people take a
ten-minute break for coffee and some snacks. Also, children return from school and eat
snacks like crackers and drink soda. The next meal of the day probably got you interested in
its unusual name. Working people go to a bar or restaurant after office for “happy hour”.
Happy hour is well-known for alcoholic drinks, but it is not always so. It can also be cocktail
along with salty snacks. I will tell you about popular meal for dinner – beef steak. Its grilled
sliced beef ribs. You can serve it with macaroni cheese, tomatoes, corn on the cob or
creamed spinach. The most popular drink in USA is Coca Cola among children and whiskey
among adults. One of most popular desserts in Canada is waffles with maple syrup.
Speaking about Czech Republic, I can’t fail to mention about dumplings. This differ
from bread in that dumplings are boiled and bread is baked. I will tell you about the three
most popular dishes in the Czech Republic: roast pork with dumplings and cabbage, candle
sauce and schnitzel. Candle sauce consists of roast beef, vegetable sauce with sour cream and
dumplings. I really like schnitzel. Its roast beef or chicken in batter. For Christmas Czechs
eat fried carp and potato salad. Potato salad is prepared from diced boiled potatoes and
carrots, peas, hard-boiled eggs, parsley, onion and mayonnaise. The Czech Republic is
famous for its tasty beer. But there is a feature. Czechs consider that it is necessary to drink
mug of beer in the afternoon.
As we see, the cuisine of each country is various. So, you should try their dishes.
