Dear Sir/Madame,

We cordially invite you to join us at the webinar "Dam Safety from Space" organized jointly by Ministry of
Public Works and Housing, BAPPENAS and the World Bank. The purpose of this webinar is to learn from
international experience and propose a program for scaling up the use of modern technologies to improve dam
safety in Indonesia.
International speakers will share global knowledge and experience on the use of modern technology for dam
safety and operation. Ample opportunity will be provided for discussion. The webinar will be delivered in dual
language Bahasa and English, with simultaneous translation into Bahasa and vice versa. A certificate will be
available for all participants registered to the event.
The webinar “Dam Safety from Space” will be held on:
Date : Wednesday, 21st December 2022
Time : 13.00-17.00 WIB (Jakarta Time – GMT+7)
SAVE THE DATE! and please kindly join us by clicking and registering on this link:

Background
Many dams in Indonesia are located in remote areas with limited access. In these cases, data about these dams
are sparse and require a significant effort to be collected. Yet, these data are important as part of a robust national
integrated water information system that includes accurate information of each dam, of its operations system and
of its safety status.
In response to climate change, Indonesia is investing in the modernization of hydrological data monitoring and
enhancement of analytical capacities for improved reservoir operations and dam safety. In recent years, advanced
technologies to improve the safety and operations of dams have been developed, including through the use of
remote sensing. The use of modern technologies, in combination with visual inspection and in-person visits, can
revolutionize the quality of dam safety and of reservoir operations that are affordable and provide reliable
information for decision making.
About the Webinar
In this webinar, we will explore possibilities and limitations of earth observation and satellite data
applied to dam safety during the design, construction, and operation phases. The webinar provides an opportunity
to learn from global and national experience, discuss latest development in earth observations for dam safety,
and explore how these can be leveraged to invest in improved dam safety 2.0 in Indonesia.
Main Questions

• What is possible with satellite technologies today?

• How can these technologies be used to improve dam safety in Indonesia?
• What are the limitation and constraints in terms of data availability, quality & reliability?
• Leveraging these modern technologies, what would be the priorities for investment in dam safety?
