The document discusses the hate and rejection faced by the LGBQ community in Ethiopia from those who view same-sex relationships as against national pride, religion, or culture. Advocates for LGBTIQ rights are seen as betraying their country or benefiting from Western influence. There is no public discussion of social movements for LGBTIQ rights in Ethiopia, with only the internet and social media providing safe spaces. Demonstrations sometimes occur abroad by the Ethiopian LGBTIQ community to express frustration with the denial of their existence and public hatred.

“Reading through the comments it is horrifying to notice the hate and rejection of LGBQ
community in the name of national pride, influence of western modernity and
civilization, religious convictions, social and cultural construction of gender and sexuality ideology. All of which is often expressed as life-threatening messages to the advocates and LGB communities. Those supporting the notion of same-sex sexual relationships as a western construct, advocates, regardless of their sexuality, are dubbed as sellouts and beneficiaries of pro-LGBTIQ western institutions.” In Ethiopia discussion social movements to at least start a conversation about the existence and the right of LGBTIQ community is none existence. Only the internet and social media seems to be the safe space. And sometimes happen to see demonstrations in international towns by the Ethiopian LGBTIQ communities just to express their frustration on the systematic denial of their existence public hatred. And I want to share a picture and a quote from social media activist of LGBTIQ right in Ethiopia.
