Dear Friends,

This is in reference to the upcoming Presidency election of Nepal Banker’s

Association (NBA)

Vice President Mr. Ashok Rana has already announced and filed his candidacy for the post of
President of NBA. He had consulted with me prior to announcing his candidacy and I have
supported his candidacy, which was communicated to you all. In this regard, I have received
comments from our friends of NBA viz Mr. Siddanth Raj Pandey, Mr. Anil Shah, Mr. Ratna Raj
Bajracharya, Mr. Shovan Dev Pant, Mr Parashuram Kunwar Chhetri, Mr. Ajay Shrestha, Mr.
Upendra Poudyal and Mr. Radhesh Pant. Hence, I have felt the need to put forward my clear
views to you all and all other friends of NBA who have not made their comments yet, in
straight way.

The views expressed by friends that two VPs sitting in one closed room and discussing and
deciding that one of the Vice President of NBA becomes President now and another Vice
President becomes President after two years without the support of other member banks is
absolutely incorrect. We had shared our views with all our friends hoping that it will be
agreeable to all keeping in view of earlier traditions and understanding of NBA and I have
clear understanding that General Meeting of NBA is the king maker, not me. Our trust behind
this views is previously accepted traditions and understandings of NBA members.

I have been associated with NBA for the last three years, two years as a member of executive
committee and one year as Vice president. Last year I had filed my candidacy for the post of
Vice President upon request of my friends and not from my own will. On the belief that, If my
friends have trust on me then, I can take up the leadership of this association, to play an
effective role towards the development of this association and will work actively in the
interest of member banks in order to improve image of NBA in the eyes of General Public.

With this hope and trust, I had filed my candidacy for the post of Vice President last year, and
a situation was created for an election. When discussed this issue in AGM, the need to expand
Executive committee was realized keeping in view of increasing numbers of member Banks.
Therefore, it was decided to expand the executive committee of NBA by amending its By- law
to form a committee of one President, two Vice Presidents, seven Executive Members making
a total of 10 member committee. In this regard, after the agreement between banks,
Executive Committee was formed unanimously after the withdrawal of candidacy filed by
Mr. Ratna Raj Bajracharya for Executive Member of the committee.

In this regard I would also like to remind you about the Gentelmen’s agreement that we had
in the previous elections for the post of President. Earlier when Mr. Bashudev Ram Joshi and
Mr. Sujit Mundal filed candidacy for the post of President and Mr. Radesh Pant and Mr.
Sashin Joshi filed candidacy for the post of Vice President, there was an election and Mr.
Basudev Ram Joshi was elected as President and Mr. Radesh Pant was elected as Vice
President. At that point of time, we realized that selection of the President and Vice-
President through election will bring split among Member Banks and it will send wrong
message to the general public that there is no unity among Bankers. Hence, It was agreed to
adopt practice of electing President through consensus and it was also agreed that the
present Vice President is automatically elected as President. Based on this understanding,
Mr. Radesh Pant and Mr. Sashin Joshi were unanimously elected as President in the past.
Following the same traditions, I had accepted the views of Mr. Ashok Rana hoping that it is
agreeable to all. I am always in favour of consensus. I do not want to be a part of breaching
prior understandings and agreements. If anyone wants to break the prior understandings
and agreements then that is his right and is free to do so. What can I say?

President of NBA is not a big position for me. Despite that I have expressed my interest for
the post of the same, just because of my confidence that with the support and trust of my
friends, NBA will be stronger and effective under my leadership. Its very clear to me that
without your support and trust, there is no meaning of showing interest for the post of NBA
President. A war won after sacrificing all the people is a meaningless win. Therefore, I am
ready to take up any kind of challenges in the capacity of NBA’s president, if my friends have
trust and support in me. Without your support, I will not be interested to become the
President, in the mean time I am ready to quit my current post of Vice President. I have
never been greedy for post in the past and I am not and will never be in future. I have
different destination.

The issue of continuity of the existing President or electing some Ex- President as President
could be a topic for discussion, though I am not in favor of this. However, I am ready for
discussion in this topic as well. Let’s discuss this to reach at a consensus.

With best regards
