Dhaka Metro Rail (XvKv †g‡Uªv‡ij)

Dhaka Metro Rail
(XvKv †g‡Uªv‡ij)
Dhaka Metro Rail, a dream (Wªxg-¯^cœ) for the people of Dhaka city, has been inaugurated (BbA¨v¸‡i‡UW-D‡Øvab
Kiv n‡qwQj) recently and is currently undergoing test runs. Soon it will carry passengers and the dream of
Dhaka commuters (KwgDUvim&-hvÎxmKj) will come true. A metro train is a train that is specifically
(‡¯úwmwdK¨vwj-we‡klfv‡e) designed to run in metropolitan cities. This train is used by the daily commuters to
cover the short distance or the distance within the city. This is the new concept (Kb‡mÞ-aviYv) of trains in
Bangladesh. Dhaka Metro Rail is a milestone (gvBj‡÷vb-gvBjdjK) in the field of communication in our
country. The 20.1 km long metro rail line from Uttara to Motijheel is known as MRT-6. Twenty-four
trains on both sides can carry about 60,000 passengers per hour and about 5,00,000 passengers a day.
There will be six coaches in each train which can be upgraded in the future and each train will be able to
carry a maximum of 2308 passengers. It will have stations on 16 points of the city. Motijheel can be
reached from Uttara in just 40 minutes. Metro rail will provide multifaceted (gvwë‡dwm‡UW&-eûg~Lx) benefits to
the residents (‡iwm‡W›Um&-evmx›`v) of Dhaka. It will reduce (wiwWDm-Kgv‡e) traffic congestion (Kb‡Rkb-hU) and
save unlimited number of working hours. City dwellers will be able to reach their destination (‡Ww÷‡bkb-
MšÍe¨) in a short time and at low cost. It will ensure a comfortable and safe journey. As metro rail is fully
an electrically operated train, it will play an effective role in reducing (wiwWDwms-Kgv‡e) environmental
pollution. Dhaka Metro Rail will play an important role in the economic development of the country. It
will not only ensure (GbwmDi-wbwðK Ki‡e) a good communication system for the people of Dhaka city but
will also create a lot of job opportunities and the country will go far ahead financially. Improved
communication is ineluctable for balanced economic development. The dream of Dhaka Metro Rail is on
the way to be fulfilled. In December 2022, the residents of Dhaka city will be able to reach their desired
destination by metro rail in a short time without any stress or strain. Bangladesh is soon going to be
amongst the countries of the world which are having an improved communication system. One cannot but
be amazed (A¨v‡gBRW&-wew¯§Z) at and proud of the future road plan of Bangladesh.

The Padma Bridge

(cÙv †mZz)
The Padma Bridge is one of the dream projects of Bangladesh. It is a multipurpose (gvwëcvicvm-eûgyLx) road
and rail bridge over the Padma River. The length of the Padma Bridge is 6.15 kilometres and its width is
18.18 metres. It has 41 spans. It has connected Louhajong. Munshiganj to Shariatpur and Madaripur,
linking the south-west of the country to the northern and eastern regions. The bridge is considered to be
the most challenging construction (KÝUªvKkb-wbg©vb) project in the history of Bangladesh, China Railway
Major Bridge Engineering Company Limited was given the task to construct the bridge, but everything
was under the direct supervision (mycviwfkb-ZZ¡veav‡b) of Bangladesh Army. Construction work started on 7
December 2014 with the expectation of completing by June 2022. And finally, on the 25th June of 2022
the dream project Padma Bridge was inaugurated by the honorable Sheikh Hasina, the honourable Prime
minister of Bangladesh. The bridge was opened on the 25th of June, 2022. The whole project cost is
estimated (Bw÷wg‡UW&-wnmve Kiv) to be US$ 3.868 billion (including VAT and IT). It was a very challenging
task for the government because the World Bank cancelled its credit agreement. Other donors also
followed the World Bank. Yet our courageous (K‡iwRqvm-mvnmx) Prime Minister did not lose heart. The
government had come up with its own funding. The bridge will connect the south-west part of the country
with the capital and the eastern part. As a result, regional (wiwRIbvj-AvÂwjK) cooperation and
communication will be improved. The Padma Bridge will bring a radical (‡iwWK¨vj-Avðh©RbK) change in
industrial development. Medical and educational facilities will be easier to access. The Padma Bridge is
estimated to increase the GDP of the country by more than 1 per cent. It will benefit about 3 crore people
across 21 south-western districts of Bangladesh. Thus, it will play an important role in the economy of
our country. The bridge will also enhance the prestige (‡cÖw÷R-m¤§vb) and dignity of the country.
