Overview

The ancient Greek castle of Carías holds the most beautiful and valuable artifacts in the
world. Tobias, a famous collector, has offered a $1,000,000 bounty to whichever team
can bring him all four famous artifacts. However, after entering the castle, the doors will
lock behind and the only way to get out is to find the four artifacts that unlock a door in
the middle of a labyrinth. All artifacts must be collected to have its value as separated;
they are not worth anything by themselves. Many teams have taken on the challenge
but failed and were never seen again. Teams will only have 30 minutes to find the map
pieces, artifacts and get their team to the center of the labyrinth before the castle guards
find you and remove your team.

A team of four archeologists with a troubled relationship will take on the challenge. They
need to overcome their differences and work together to achieve their objective. Starting
on opposite sides of the labyrinth and attacking the labyrinth from different angles and
sides simulates the real-world problems your team is experiencing. In order to find the
artifacts, our team must work together to traverse the labyrinth and collect all four
artifacts to open the door. Beware of the many obstacles that lie in the way.

Roles

Facilitator: Knows and understands that their team is not operating efficiently. The
facilitator assigns roles to the players to either play to their strengths or improve their
weaknesses. This role takes a “backseat-approach” when the game is playing out and
is there to supervise and encourage players. If played electronically, the facilitator has
the option of moving the player’s pieces around the game board. After the game has
ended, the facilitator presents to the players what they did well as a team and offers
encouragement and advice on how to improve what they need to work on.

Helper: Can help each team member counteract a move backwards one time for each
player, so that they don’t have to move back in the game board (can only be used once
per player). This does not mean that the helper can freely move around the castle - only
when they are helping a team member. Helper can get you out of a trap on their turn
(loses a turn). When played electronically, the helper moves around the “trap” icon on
the screen to display player trapped statuses.

Navigator: Can read the map and communicate with other players in order to guide
them through the labyrinth. The navigator can find a creative way to move through a
blocked path, by moving diagonally. Navigator can see where the items are, but only if
shown on the map. When all map pieces are collected, the navigator can now see the
bigger picture and lead the team to the middle of the labyrinth.

Pyrotechnist: The pyrotechnist is able to burn their entire round in order to blow down
a wall for themselves and other players. The pyrotechnist then moves one space
forward, past the rubble.

Medic: The role of the medic is to heal a player that has been injured in the castle. The
medic will be able to locate the injured player, and use one of their turns to heal the
player. The medic role is crucial for group survival and ensures the cohesiveness of the
group. When played electronically, the medic moves around the “injured” icon on the
screen to display player health statuses.

Skills & Items

Skills:
● Good with directions
● Adaptable in panic situation
● Resourceful
Items:
● Map: Used only by the navigator (only they can read the map); they hold a partial
map with which they can help the other players by showing them the way. As
they move within the labyrinth, the scavenger is able to find the missing pieces of
the map.
● Walkie talkie: Used by all players to communicate with each other. (Physical
board game has cardboard walkie talkies; electronic version allows Blackboard
collaborate to suffice)
● Dynamite: Can be used to blow down one section of wall, thus creating an
alternate path. (Used by Pyrotechnist)
● Spinner: used in game (can hold random events such as traps that can affect a
player)

Objective
Band together with your team of archeologists to find the treasure of Carías hidden
inside the castle! Choose your avatar and utilize their special abilities to find precious
artifacts and map pieces to escape the labyrinth with your riches!
Game Rules
● Everyone will be able to see the game board (in this case it’s online). The online
game board is interactive so you will be able to move your game piece around
the map.
● The game facilitator will assign each team member to their role and decide which
player takes their turn first.
● Spin the wheel when it is your turn. If you land on SAFE, you can move three
spaces as normal. If you land on TRAP, your player is stuck and thus can move
only once until you’re untrapped by the Helper. The Helper must use one of their
turns to untrap a stuck player. If the Helper is the trapped player, they can first
untrap themselves, thus earning two more turns, and untrap other players or
move forward. If you land on INJURY, you’ve injured yourself. You can only
move forward one space during each of your following turns, or until the Medic
can get to you and heal you. The Medic must use one of their turns to heal a
injured player. If the Medic is the injured player, they can first heal themselves,
thus earning two more turns, and heal other players or move forward. Lastly, if
you land on Extra Move, you may move 1 extra move on your next turn.
● When it is not your turn, you must mute your microphone so that the game can
show the face of the person who should be speaking on the screen.
● The players must pick up the 2 map pieces on the board before the Navigator
can see the full map. Once the full map is obtained, the Navigator will be able to
tell everyone where their artifacts are. (Artifacts will then appear on the game
board).
● Each player has to collect their corresponding artifact. This allows the team to be
able to open the door to the castle to exit.
● There must be four players in this game so that all roles can be played. It is
important that all roles are assumed.
● Player 1 is Navigator, Player 2 is Medic, Player 3 is Helper, and Player 4 is
Pyrotechnist.
● The relics are cursed, and will disappear into thin air if not given to Tobias within
30 minutes of the castle door opening (when everyone enters). Tobias has the
ability to erase the curse, so they need to be given to him before the timer is up!

Instructions
1. Set up the Game Board (in the ideal case of this game being a physical board, it
is up to the players to set up the game board).
2. The game facilitator will choose your role. Become familiar with your role’s duties
in the game.
3. Game facilitator will start the timer at 30 minutes. You have until the timer runs
out to make it to the entrance of the castle, or else the relics will disappear.
4. Player 1 (Navigator) will make their three moves into the castle before spinning
the spinner, and play out the action accordingly at the beginning of their next
turn.
5. Player 2 (Medic) will then move three spaces and spin the spinner. Continue in
this cycle throughout the game.
6. Your first objective is for the players to find the two hidden map pieces. Every
player should be looking for these pieces on the board.
7. Once the navigator is given both map pieces, all players can see the four hidden
artifacts appear on the board. It is now everyone’s mission to band together as a
team and gather all four artifacts.
8. Once you have obtained all of the artifacts, all four players must open the castle
doors together. The door can’t be opened without all four artifacts. Each player
must hold only one artifact (the one that matches the color of their avatar [if this
was a physical board game]).
9. As each player makes their way into the center, they will stop using turns
because they have already made it to the door. It’s important for roles like
Helper, and Medic to make sure everyone is in the center before they decide to
move in to avoid risk of a player getting trapped/injured and not being able to be
rescued.
10. Open the labyrinth doors in the center by using each player’s artifact as a key in
the castle door. Once opened, remove the artifact from the door and hand all four
over to Tobias to cash in on your team prize of $1,000,000!
11. Once your game has ended, discuss with the facilitator what went wrong, what
went well, what the team could have done differently to improve their strategy,
and what strengths they noticed in their team members.
