SAMBA Version 2.0.

7 Installation Notes (by Heinz Widmer)


Start here: Get SAMBA from http://au2.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/AIX/SAMBA_aix432-2.0.7.0.exe

1. Copy the fileSAMBA_aix432-2.0.7.0.exe to a dataVolume onto the Brisque or RiproServer (e.g. /dataVolumes/ripro1.3.0)

2. Go to the Brisque/RiproServer and open a Terminal session

3. Type: cd /dataVolumes/ripro1.3.0 <enter>

4. Type: chmod 777 SAMBA_aix432-2.0.7.0.exe <enter>

5. Type the name of the copied file and enter: SAMBA_aix432-2.0.7.0.exe <enter>
This will create the following two files: SAMBA-2.0.7.0.bff.asc and SAMBA-2.0.7.0.bff

6. We are interrested in the file SAMBA-2.0.7.0.bff, type the following command:


bffcreate -d /dataVolumes/ripro1.3.0 -w /tmp -t /dataVolumes/ripro1.3.0 freeware.SAMBA <enter>
Note: Type exactly the above, except the path of the dataVolume, where the file is located!
This will create an image called freeware.SAMBA.usr.2.0.7.0

7. Use the command smit install_latest, to install the image (point to the right directory under INPUT device / directory for software
Select the image called freeware.SAMBA and enter twice.

8. When the installation is finished, check the following files:


/etc/services (this file should contain the line at the end: swat 901/tcp #Add swat service used via inetd)
/etc/inetd.conf (this file should contain the line at the end: swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/sbin/swat swat. If the line has a #
in the front, delete the #)

9. Reboot the Brisque/RiproServer

10. Open from a PC or Mac a Web Browser (Netscape or Explorer) and go to the following address:
IP address of Brisque/RiproServer:901 (e.g. 10.5.0.222:901)

12. Enter the standard user and password for a Brisque/RiproServer: root - ripro

13. Then you get this:


14. Click on Globals and define the following according to your machine:

Your Workgroup or Domain Name!

Brisque/RiproServer IP Address!

Leave the rest unless you know what


you are doing!

15. Click on Commit Changes


16. Click on Shares

17. Delete all existing Shares, type in a new Share Name (e.g. Ripro1) and select Create Share.
Type in the path like /dataVolumes
You can leave the guest account as nobody, but make sure, writable and the others are switched to yes.
Again, Commit Changes
18. Select Printers

19. Delete all existing Printers

20. Select Status

21. Click the buttons Restart smbd and Restart nmbd then go and test it from a PC!!

22. View shows you the configuration as a text file:
