Written Assignment Unit 4: News article

For this assignment, I will be writing a news article on the events that transpired in Kurt

Vonnegut’s “2 B R 0 2 B” (2007).

A tragic incident at Chicago Lying-in Hospital resulted in the deaths of Edward K.

Wehling, Jr., the great Dr Benjamin Hitz, Chief Obstetrician, and Leora Duncan a hostess of the

Service Division of the Federal Bureau of Termination. Mr Wehling was expecting the birth of

triplets, however, he had failed to secure a suitable volunteer for termination, when he shot and

killed Dr Hitz and Miss Duncan and then turned the gun on himself. A single witness was on the

scene, but he wishes to remain anonymous. The President’s office has issued a statement and has

said that though this is a tragic loss of life, it was needed to keep the population of the United

States stabilised. The deaths of a criminal and two state employees will serve as tributes for the

newly born triplets. A national day of mourning will be enforced for the remainder of the week,

to mourn the loss of these two great servants of the state, Dr Benjamin Hitz and Leora Duncan.
