Abstract: Peppa pig cartoon is a cartoon that is popular with children in the United
Kingdom and is nominated 3 in the top children's cartoon category. The reason why
this cartoon is popular is because the language conveyed tends to be easy to
understand and has an intonation that children can hear happily. It is from that
language that a child learns to understand which sentences are presuppositions and
which are implied meanings. This makes many data scientists conduct research on
why this cartoon is so popular. For this analysis, Peppa Pig provides data elements of
speech acts which will be used to examine various data related to pragmatics as well
as other linguistic elements.

Keywords: language, linguistic, pragmatic, speech act, peppa pig .

RESEARCH BACKGROUND

A speech act is an utterance as a functional unit in communication. People don't just say
words when they try to express themselves. They contain grammatical structures and words
and perform actions on them Utterance. Jules (2000:47) Call to perform actions on these
utterances as utterances act, and in English is usually given a more specific designation such
as sorry Complaints, Compliments, Invitations, and Promises or Requests. One category of
speech act is the inquiry that deals with it ask for something or make someone do something.
Tsui (1996:92) said a request is generally understood as a polite means of reaching an

Those types of utterances made the time period speech act appeared. The time period speech
act became popular whilst John R. Searle expressed his opinions and know-how
approximately the speech act in a book titled Speech Acts. An Essay in the Philosophy of
Language (1969). Searle described the speech act as a idea that tested the that means of
language primarily based totally on speech relationswith the moves taken through the
speaker. According to Mey (1994:111) speech act is an action happening in the world, that is,
they result in a extrade withinside the present nation of fairs (said in Zumaroh:2012).
Meanwhile, Yule described that speech act is an action executed via the utterances (1996:47).

In conclusion, speech act is the idea approximately the utterances which can be used to
extrade, nation, specific, even it is able to make a person devote and act in the direction of the
utterances stated through the speaker. Then Austin (1962:108) enhanced speech act became
three acts in which it concurrently executed whilst a person uttering a sentence, the ones acts
are locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act. Locutionary act is the structure
of the utterance in which ithad the literal that means. There are four structural forms
specifically declarative shape, interrogative shape, imperative shape and exclamation shape.

Inquiry is a part of pragmatics. But, the need related to society interaction, so it is inseparable
from sociolinguistics. This study takes a pragmatic approach as an analytical method,
looking at how speakers use language in social interactions with others. The speech act
requirement is also used in a episode because in fact a movie represents real conversation in
natural society. Regarding this phenomenon, the author used film autoscript to explore some
of the requested speech acts. In this analysis, the writer will just focus on cartoon episode.
Peppa is just an extra curious piglet in a uniqe form. It has a big dream about it’s future in
this episode. Then there are teacher and friends who will help her to make it.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE (HEADING 1)

This analysis has been done by Thomaï Alexiou and Natassa Kokla 2019 with a title A
Linguistic Analysis of Peppa Pig. They did analysis in linguistic way which means that this
analysis still in a branch about what they have done. They were more concerned about overall
linguistic for beginners while this analysis is doing research for academic purposes and of

course for college student. What is this analysis doing ,this analysis is finding speech action
types in an episode of Peppa pig.

The previous analysis was done by collecting the data from the movie itself while reading the
dialog and listening to the tone that the character says. Accordingly, a speech act is the type
of action that can be performed by the speaker, that is, he performs the act. This concept
always treats resignations, promises, affirmations and requests as verbal acts, while excluding
persuasion, insults, and whispering. This definition leaves open the possibility that speech
acts are performed without words, just as speech acts are performed without saying you are
doing it. Our characterization of speech acts captures this fact by emphasizing the speaker's
meaning rather than the pronunciation of any given word.

RESEARCH METHOD

This analysis will use descriptive qualitative method. Based on Sugishirono (2010),it states
that qualitative research is descriptive. This means that the collected data was of the form
words rather than numbers. Gay (2006) who also stated that the research was qualitative
comprehensive narrative and visual data collection, analysis and interpretation in to gain
insight into a particular phenomenon. Meanwhile, Bogdan & Bicklen (1982) He describes
qualitative research as: A relationship, activity, situation, or material. Also, the qualitative
purpose is research focused on promoting a deeper understanding of specific phenomena
such as: Environments, processes and even beliefs. In this case, the author collects, analyzes,
interpret and explain the data. This method should write all related to the research topic.
Where did the writer describe the type of speech action by peppa pig and sort each type of
speech actions with the example. The last one is grouping them.
