Lab #: 2

Date:

Topic: Osmosis

Aim: To investigate the effects of varying concentrations on animal cells.

Materials/Equipment:

Method:
1. Place eggs in a container containing vinegar to dissolve the shells (for approximately
3- 4 days).
2. Label two containers, A and B.
3. Pour tap water in container A and saline solution ( 1 tablespoon salt to every cup of
water) in container B.

record the length of the string against a ruler.
6. Place egg in container A.
7. Quickly repeat steps 5 and place the egg in container B.
8. After 36 hours remeasure both eggs and record the final value.
9. Record results and observations in a suitable manner

Results: a. table b. Observatory paragraph

Discussion of Results: Include background information about the osmosis. Follow by

discussing your results, i.e. What happened to the eggs before and after the experiment and
explain why it happened.
