FMWC Stage 7 / 2022

(1000 regular points available)

STAGE DATES: October 14-17, 2022

STAGE INTRODUCTION
FMWC Season 2022 is reaching its deciding phase! Only the best 6 results out of the 8 stages count
towards seasonal rankings. Therefore, some of the players will be able to improve their score only
marginally. However, those players who missed one or two stages earlier this year will see a
significant boost in their rankings after completing this stage.
As usual, we will be awarding our monthly stage prize pool:
• Stage Winner: $250
• Top U-25 participant: $150
• Best Newcomer: $100
• Best U-25 Newcomer: $50

This time Stage 7 of the regular season will also coincide with the final qualification stage for the
Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge. Early next week we will find out the finalists for the Student
tournament who will compete live in Tucson, Arizona on December 3!

CASE COMMENTS
This time there will be no usual “Speed It Up” case for the warm-up. Instead, FMWC founder
Andrew Grigolyunovich has prepared a set of 15 questions that cover various components of
financial modeling, finance, valuation and a bit of Excel. We have called it “1st Year Analyst – Fall
2022” as the case essentially tests the key knowledge and skills that a fresh university graduate
should possess for a successful career in the field of finance. The calculations should be quite easy,
typically, just a few simple formulas, so for experienced professionals, this should be a walk in the
park. Just make sure you check your answers – some of the multiple-choice options might contain
numbers that one could get by making the most common mistakes. A similar case has already been
presented in Spring 2022 – you can find in in the FMWC Shop.
The other 2 cases were also created by FMWC founder Andrew Grigolyunovich. It’s been a while
since we included a non-finance case in the regular stages of FMWC. “It’s Harvest Time” is a
completely Excel modeling case with some little additions of financial calculations. The only hint we
could give here is that the first 8 questions should be much easier than the next 4. If you are not
going for a time bonus, it might be the right time to switch to Case 3 – you will get easier points
from the first questions there.
Case 3, on the other hand, is very much finance-related. You are a junior analyst at the FP&A team
working on a company’s long-term financial projections. Your part of the work is to prepare the
company’s revenue and expense forecast – everything down to EBITDA.
Time bonuses will be provided to all the early finishers that score at least 900 points. This time you
have to work very carefully as no extra points are provided.
