 Students of MBA I year conducted a CSR activity spreading awareness on ‘Cyber
security’. All the students met near the college campus at 11 AM and started their
activity by visiting some shops one by one.

 We started our activity by visiting a Xerox Shop. The name of the shop was JK Xerox
and Stationary.
We asked the owner of shop about how aware and active he is regarding his cyber
security and does he face any problem regarding UPI payments or the UPI sound box.
He answered our questions politely and told us that he technically very sound as he
always as to be on a computer to run his shop and actively works on his social
security.
 We also asked him if has ever encountered a situation where he was hacked or was on
verge of getting hacked. He said that he never had a situation like that.
 Next, we visited Khavye Nashta center. The owner of the shop was a old man. We
asked him if he is aware about cyber security and if checks on his passwords, etc. At
first he was he didn’t understand what we were talking about but we explained what is
cyber security and how he should be safe in this new digital world.
 Next, We met an auto rickshaw driver. We had a conversation with him regarding how
he manages all the different online cab services apps. We asked him has he ever had a
problem regarding any online payments. He told us that he had encountered couple of
incidents where is payment was delayed but there weren’t any major issues.

 Next, we met an Engineering student named Neeraj Jagtap Studying at NBN Sinhgad
College of Engineering. We asked him how aware he is regarding his social security.
As he was a young guy he was very much aware about all the Do’s and Don’ts of
cyber security. We also reminded him a few points about online security so that he
never ends up in a critical situation in this new digital world.
 Next, we went to a medical shop named Hrinandan Medical and a cobbler sitting by
the road. The topic of conversation with both parties was similar regarding the online
transactions. Nowadays almost all the shops use UPI soundbox provided by different
companies such as Paytm, Bharatpe, Phonepay, etc and all the shops have to pay fixed
charge every month as subscription to avail such services. The medical shop owner
was satisfied with the service provided by the sound box and never had any problem,
whereas the cobbler raised a unique problem that he was once charged 50 bucks more
than the usual amount. This was the first time we heard such a problem, so we
immediately started to search for a solution. We came to know that it was a rare
problem and can be resolved by contacting Customer Helpline number. We suggested
the cobbler to contact customer helpline and raise his query.
 At last we concluded our activity by meeting a couple of students asking them some
questions regarding there social activities, passwords strengths, OTP sharing, etc.
 The main and common questions which we asked to all shop owners and the students
were as follows :

o How often do you change your passwords?

o Do you use capital letters, special letters in your password

o Do you share your passwords with others?

o Do you open links sent through unknown numbers or mails?

 We also spread awareness regarding Do’s and Don’ts of Cyber Security by telling
them in person and we also printed a QR code in our poster which leads to the same
Do’s and Don’ts so that it can be saved in there phones and can checked on later as
well.
 The DOs
1. While you are banking, shopping or paying your bills online, check if the
website’s URL begins with ‘https’. Also look for the padlock icon, which
indicates that the connection is secure.
2. Go for unique, and hard to guess passwords. Never keep the same
password for different online accounts. Create a password that has a mix
of uppercase and lowercase letters, special characters, and numbers.
3. Use your primary email address to stay in touch with people you know or
are acquainted with.
4. For social media sites, use an email address that you do not use for
important communications.
5. Avoid using free, unsecured Wi-Fi for shopping or banking on the
Internet and even for logging into your social media profiles.
5. Delete old accounts that you do not use anymore.
6. Before downloading any free software, research on the software and the
website hosting it. Ensure the software’s publisher is verified.
7. Access your bank’s website by manually typing its URL in the address
bar. Never access it from an email or a text message.
8. Never click on links or download attachments in unwanted, unexpected
emails, even if such emails look like they are from a known source.
9. Take regular backups of all your important files. Doing this is more
important now that ransomware attacks are becoming so rampant. It is
recommended to store the backup on external hard drives and connect
them to your PC as less as possible. Alternatively, you can also use a
trusted cloud-based backup service.

 The DONT’s
1. Avoid making your personal information public on social media sites and
the Internet in general.
2. Avoid checking ‘Keep me logged in’ or ‘Remember me’ options on
websites, especially on public computers.
3. Never use your official email address for social media sites.
4. Never use any of your personal information such as name, date of birth,
address, etc., as your password.
5. Never respond to pop-up ads that may come up on your screen. Close such
pop-ups from the task manager; press Alt+Ctrl+Delete.
6. Avoid visiting inappropriate websites or websites that you are not fully
aware of.
7. Always log out of online accounts when you are done. This is especially
important when you are using a public computer.
8. Do not install software that comes as an attachment in emails.
9. Avoid saving your credit/debit card information on websites and web
browsers.
10. Never share your personal/bank details on phone, email or SMS, even if
the caller/sender seems genuine.
