Economics is the study of how people and societies choose to use scarce resources in the production of goods
and services, and of the distribution of these goods and services among individuals and groups in society.
The economics major requires coursework in economics and mathematics. A student who enters Whitman with
no prior college-level work in either of these areas would need to complete Math 124 or 125 and complete at least
35
credits in economics.
Distribution: Courses completed in economics apply to the social sciences and quantitative analysis (selected
courses) distribution areas.
Total credit requirements for an Economics major: A student who enters Whitman with no prior college-level
