1. Dyspnea: Shortness of breath; Detailed as an intense tightening in the chest, air hunger,

difficulty breathing, breathlessness or a feeling of suffocation.

2. COPD: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung

disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs.

3. Exacerbations: The increase in the severity of a disease or its signs and symptoms.

4. Albuterol: A moderately selective short-acting beta-2-receptor agonist (SABA).

a. Indications – For the treatment of severe or incapacitating asthma maintenance

treatment; For the management of symptoms of seasonal allergies and perennial

allergies

c. Major side effects: Allergic reactions; Burning, itching, crusting, or peeling of

6. Psoriasis: A chronic disease of the skin marked by red patches covered with white scales.

7. Productive cough: A cough that brings up mucus.

8. Wheezing: A high-pitched whistling sound made while breathing

9. SaO2: The oxygen saturation as measured by blood analysis

10. FEV1: Stands for the forced expiratory volume in the first second, or the amount of aur

you forcefully exhaled in the first second of blowing.

11. Modified MRC Dyspnea Scale – Grade 1: Quantifies disability attributable to

breathlessness and is useful for characterizing baseline dyspnea in patients with

respiratory diseases.

a. Grade 1 details breathlessness when hurrying on the level or walking up a slight

hill.

12. COPD Assessment Test (CAT) – Score = 8: A questionnaire for people with Chronic

Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) that is designed to measure the impact of COPD

on a person's life, and how these change over time.


a. Score of 8 details someone who may not experience many COPD symptoms, or at

least not severe enough to affect their daily activities. Most days are good, but

they cough regularly and get tired easily.

13. Gold Stage 3: Diagnosis of stage III COPD is made when the lungs are around 30% to

50% capacity of their normal functioning ability. This is indicated when spirometry test

measures between 30% to 49% forced expiratory volume (FEV1) in one second.
