American Youth Policy Forum

The American Youth Policy Forum (AYPF) is a policy and advocacy non-profit
organization that advocates for youth-related policy change at the federal and state levels in
America. Notably, the organization is a beneficiary of the Bill Gates foundation. AYPF is
actively engaged in research about various issues that affect the youth and agitates for
policymakers to tour local schools to understand the plight of the youth. Based in Washington
DC, the organization is a learning outfit that brings together policy makers, educators,
researchers, and other youth agenda stakeholders to examine and offer amicable policy solutions
to youth challenges and problems. Philanthropists and well-wishers entirely fund the
organization.
Vision
The organization envisions a future where all American youth, specifically those from
marginalized communities, have equal opportunities and the relevant support to grow into
distinguished scholars, make a decent and honest living, and be actively involved in relevant
civic issues.
Mission
The organization’s mission is to bring together policymakers, practitioners, and other
education and youth stakeholders to formulate and improve youth education and employment
policies and outcomes (American Youth Policy Forum). The group aims to meet its objectives by
providing research data, information, and facts to the relevant stakeholders. Also, it provides
learning experiences, organizing networking avenues for youth, stakeholders, and policymakers
at all levels of government.
Operational Tactics
AYPF operates by targeting and educating policymakers, stakeholders, and influencers
on the best approaches to achieve positive policy outcomes for youth. Also, the organization
strives to positively influence the innovation, research, and financial options and opportunities
for American children. In essence, the organization works on informing the critical policymakers
on the need for youth-friendly policy strategies. Additionally, AYPF stresses the importance of
research as the foundation of positive policy changes and diverts a considerable number of
resources and effort into research. The organization’s activities and practices are centered around
four goals: Firstly, the group aims to provide personally tailored learning outcomes for
stakeholders. Secondly, it seeks to create ways for marginalized youth to get into colleges and
universities. Thirdly, it aims to provide all-rounded support to these youth. Finally, AYPF seeks
to provide opportunities outside the school for youths to develop their skills to earn a living and
for economic and social development.
Milestones
AYFP has been operational for close to three decades, and in this time, it has achieved
several milestones. The organization has considerably impacted the educational and economic
outcomes for marginalized youths by standing against marginalization and systematic
inequalities. Over these years, the organization has held hundreds of workshops and has engaged

countless policymakers at all levels of governance on how to design policies favorable to

American youths.
One of the most iconic achievements of the group has been to raise awareness about the
“forgotten half,” who are youths neither in school nor work and who have borne the largest brunt
of social and systemic inequalities. Through advocacy and public awareness campaigns, the
organization has created more policy focus on this group and improved the college and career
prospectus. In addition to creating awareness, the organization’s research and data have been
instrumental in designing certain critical policies. AYFP has also managed to initiate programs
that advocate for the youth agenda, improving access to education and job opportunities for
marginalized youths.
