Anchor 1: For the headlines…

Anchor 2: Is Interstellar Travel Really Possible? Key findings from the university students’ survey,
Unveiled!

Anchor 1: Because of the vast distances that separate the stars, some scientists are skeptical of
interstellar travel. Because no usable information can travel faster than light locally, it would take
centuries to millennia for an extraterrestrial civilization to travel between the stars, according to Special
Relativity. Even the familiar stars we see at night are 50 to 100 light years away, and our galaxy spans
100,000 light years. The closest galaxy is 2 million light years away. Critics argue that interstellar travel is
simply too large to be practical.

Anchor 2: Listen folks, I love a good sci-fi movie as much as anyone. It's all good cruising around the
galaxy, finding strange things, and blowing up aliens. But just because a writer can think of something
doesn't mean it's feasible. I'm sorry to say but I personally think that we'll be stuck with our solar system
for a very long time. As in, probably indefinitely.

Anchor 1: Nevertheless, to an astronomer, the existence of intelligent life in the universe is a compelling
idea in and of itself, with extra-terrestrial beings on other stars that are hundreds to millennia more
advanced than ours. There are over 100 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy alone, and there are a
countless number of galaxies in the universe. About half of the stars we see in the sky are double stars,
making them unsuitable for intelligent life, but the other half most likely have solar systems similar to
ours.
