Objective of course:
The course covers advanced topics in dynamics and vibrations. The course aims at preparing
students to tackle complex and frontier technological problems in dynamics and vibrations. The
analysis of increasingly complex system has been instrumental in the development of advanced
concepts like Lagrange and variation calculus, which forms the core of Part A (dynamics).
Advanced topics like Non-linear system analysis is included in Part B

non-inertial (rotating) reference frames, rate of change of a Lecture

Rigid body kinematics:
This module extends the concepts covered in module# 1 to
2-3 T1 & T2,
rigid bodies for both planar & 3-D. Additionally this also covers:

Students are expected to visit the Elearn portal on a regular basis and stay up to date with the
latest announcements and deadlines.
Contact sessions: Students should attend the online lectures as per the schedule provided on
the Elearn portal.

Evaluation Guidelines:
1. EC-1 consists of a Quiz/Assignment/Project along with Onramp course, virtual lab and
remote lab. Performing the remote lab experiments accessing the on-site lab at Hyderabad
campus is mandatory. Announcements will be made on the portal, in a timely manner.

2. For closed book tests: No books or reference material of any kind will be permitted.

3. For open book exams: Use of books and any printed / written reference material (filed or
bound) is permitted. However, loose sheets of paper will not be allowed. Use of calculators
is permitted in all exams. Laptops/mobiles of any kind are not allowed. Exchange of any
material is not allowed.

4. If a student is unable to appear for the Regular Test/Exam due to genuine exigencies,
the student should follow the procedure to apply for the Make-Up Test/Exam which will be
made available on the Elearn portal. The Make-Up Test/Exam will be conducted only at
selected exam centres on the dates to be announced later.

It shall be the responsibility of the individual student to be regular in maintaining the self-study
schedule as given in the course handout, attend online lectures, and take all prescribed
evaluation components such as Assignment, Mid-Semester Test and Comprehensive Exam
according to the evaluation scheme provided in the handout.

DYNAMICS AND VIBRATION: Simulation Lab


1. Scope of the lab
To support the theory learned in vibration and dynamics course with modelling and
simulation to understand the implementation of various vibration and dynamics and to instill
confidence in students to approach the real-world problems.

Developing skill set to analyze the vibration and dynamics related problems with the
simulation aid to help during design.
