Subject: Request for becoming a “Distinguished Member” of SDPI’s “Network for Clean Energy Transition in
Pakistan: Research and Advocacy”.
Dear Ms. Nupur Shah,
Greetings from the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Islamabad, Pakistan.
It gives me a great pleasure to extend you this invitation to join SDPI’s “Network for Clean Energy Transition in
Pakistan: Research and Advocacy” as a “Distinguished Member”.
As a part of this network on Clean Energy transition in Pakistan, we are researching the way forward for the sustainable
development of Pakistan through an energy lens. The basis of our research is Pakistan’s recent targets and developments
in the energy sector. Achieving these targets would require several measures from both supply and demand side.
In this regard, we have established a "Network for clean energy transition in Pakistan: Research and Advocacy”, to
generate disseminate research-based knowledge to support the relevant stakeholders on the key areas (but not limited to):
Energy Transition, Renewable Energy, Climate Resilience, Climate Governance and Policy, Energy Market Reforms,
Energy conservation, Industrial decarbonization, Sustainability and management. The main actors may include
representatives from Government institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations
(CSOs), Private and Corporate Sector, Businesses, Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Large Industries, Academia, and
Research Institutions. The network was officially launched on 29 th December 2021 whose report is attached herewith.
The specific objectives include:
• Provide evidence-based policy recommendations to elicit a shift toward clean energy, predominantly harnessing
the huge untapped potential of renewable energy sources in Pakistan in a socially equitable, environmentally
sustainable, and economically viable way.
• Provide a roadmap for the implementation of national energy and climate policies, international climate
commitments, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), together with key policy options and technological
solutions towards the clean energy transition of Pakistan.
The Network aims to bring together a diverse pool of relevant experts and organizations to solicit technical inputs for
research, advocacy, and capacity building in core areas under the three sub-categories:
1. Renewable Energy (RE) Working Group: In the area of expertise of renewable energy in both technology and
the policy side.
2. Corporate Sustainability Group: Private sector commitments of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),
Sustainability measures and socio-economic uplift.
