What does Covid-19 mean?

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an

infectious disease caused by the SARS-
CoV-2 virus. Individuals infected with the
virus will experience mild to moderate
respiratory illness.
How does Covid-19 spread?
The disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which spreads
between people in different ways.

The virus spreads mainly between people who are in close

contact with each other. The virus can also be contracted if
there is direct contact with infectious particles through the
eyes, nose or mouth.

The virus can also spread in poorly ventilated and crowded

indoor settings, where people normally spend longer periods
of time.

People may also become infected when touching their eyes,

nose or mouth after touching surfaces or objects that have
been contaminated by the virus.

shortness of breath and pneumonia, about a week after symptoms start.
Effect
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to loss of human life worldwide and presents an
unprecedented challenge to public health, food systems and the world of work.
The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is substantial.
Tens of millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty.
The pandemic effects the entire food system.
Millions of enterprises face an existential threat.
Causes

The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily among people.

COVID-19 virus spreads mainly from person to person among
those in close contact. The virus spreads by respiratory droplets
released when someone with the virus coughs, sneezes,
breathes or talks. These droplets can be inhaled or land in the
mouth, nose or eyes of a person nearby.

The virus can also spread if you touch a surface with the virus
on it and then touch your mouth, nose or eyes.
Prevention
Follow local guidance, such as the Standard Operation
Procedure by the authorities.

Stay at least 1 metre away from others, even if they don’t appear
to be sick, since people can have the virus without having

symptoms.

Masks: Wear a three-layer mask. Clean your hands before

putting on and taking off a mask.

Avoid crowded places, poorly ventilated, indoor locations and

avoid prolonged contact with others.

Ventilation: Open windows when indoors to increase the amount

of outdoor air.

Vaccination: Make sure to get vaccinated as soon as possible .

Follow local guidance and recommendations about vaccination.
