ARCHITECTURAL THEORY – X

SEM-3 AD SITE VISIT-

The topic for architectural design-3 was to design a public space in thane. That was our first
official site visit our faculties conducted and they also accompanied us through the site
explaining us different parameters of a site analysis. I understood different analysis to be
done for a site study for example the circulation, hardscape-softscape, traffic, age group,
many more. Form that visit I learned how a site analysis is done and it helped me in all my
semesters.

STUDY TOUR-AHMEDABAD
First year study tour, we visited Ahmedabad and Bhuj. There we conducted a hands-on
workshop of ramped earth construction and wattle and daub. Later, I gained interest in
vernacular architecture, their importance and construction details. Then I used many many
such vernacular techniques in my design throughout my architectural designs and my thesis
is also based on local village and vernacular architecture.

BOOK – TRUTH IN ARCHITECTUE BY LAURIE BAKER

The book based on different works of Laurie Baker inspired me throughout my five years
architectural journey where I used different jail works, façade designs different types of
brick walls inspired by Baker in my designs and I hope I will be used the same in my thesis
design also. The book showed me the importance of the relation between an architecture
and nature.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES – E-GO DESIGN STUDIO, TRIVANDRUM

Internship played an important role in my client-worker site interaction where I used to go
for site visit weekly. I made working drawing including some interior designs, and a
bungalow design. I learned different roles an architect should play in his architectural
journey. I engaged in model making of a contours site of 40acres which helped me
understand how to start a design process in hilly areas. During my internship, I saw how
total station (setting out) is done on site which I had doubts in my second year of
architecture.

HOME DESIGN –
During my third year of architecture, I design my home. It was a big challenge I faced in my
architectural journey. It made me understand different details, construction cost, material
available in market etc. there were many problems related to Vaastu and I had to go
through each rules to be followed with respect to the design. Even today I use those points
in my design and researches.
