Effect of Suggesting Handheld Patient Wais Lifter as an Wssential Tool to the Caregiver’s Choice in
Lifting a Patient
*Intoduction*
There are still a lot of tasks that need to be done by hand, particularly in the logistics,
manufacturing, and medical sectors. This is true even though robots and other work-related
automation equipment are frequently used in modern factories to lift loads that are heavy and
beyond the capacity of humans. In medical industries, lifting a patient is required, using cloth that
can be help to assist the caregiver in lifiting patient is used, but without proper grip in cloth this
could lead to accidents for both patient and the caregiver.
This where handheld waist lifter become handy. These waist lifter are minexpensive and
convenient mechanical aids. These devices are placed around the patient's waist and handles are
used to lift the patient when transferring them from bed to wheelchair and stretcher, as well as
moving them from sitting to standing or vice versa. Handheld feature should be implemented in
the medical industries especially in urban, this is to ensure the safety and effortless lifting of
caregivers.
This study aims to find the effect of Suggesting Handheld Patient Wais Lifter as an Wssential Tool
to the Caregiver’s Choice in Lifting a Patient
if the difference in suggesting handheld patient’s waist lifter to a aregiver as an effective tool and
its effect on caregiver’s choice in lifting a patients.
2. Can Handheld patient waist lifter be an effective tool in lifting patient by their waist of legs?
in suggesting handheld patient’s waist lifter to a caregiver as an effective tool and its effect on
caregiver’s personal choice in lifting a patients
*THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK *
Yassi(2001) said that the use of ergonomic belts, in addition to reducing the pressure on the
spine and reducing musculoskeletal diseases, effectively provides comfort to the patients.
According to Li (2013); ergonomic belts may improve the efficiency of physician work, reduce
adverse events, and increase the completeness of physician handoffs.
The researcher utilized this theory as the base of his attempt to determine difference in
suggesting handheld patient’s waist lifter to a aregiver as an effective tool and its effect on
caregiver’s choice in lifting a patients.
*CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK*
*Input*
1. Profile of respondents in terms of the following:
1.1 age;
1.2 gender;
1.3 educational
Attainment; and
1.4 Occupation
*Process*
Analysis of data gathered to determine the difference on the Effect of Suggesting Handheld
Patient Wais Lifter as an Wssential Tool to the Caregiver’s Choice in Lifting a Patient
in suggesting handheld patient’s waist lifter to a caregiver as an effective tool and its effect on
caregiver’s choice in lifting a patients.
*Outpout*
Determine the Effect of Suggesting Handheld Patient Waist Lifter as an Essential Tool to the
Caregiver’s Choice in Lifting a Patient
difference in suggesting handheld patient’s waist lifter to a aregiver as an effective tool and its
effect on caregiver’s choice in lifting a patients.
School Administrators. The findings of this study can give way to the identification of strategies to
utilize a better understanding on how handheld patient’s waist lifter can be beneficial to student
caregiving on assisting patients.
This study was conducted to the faculty of Talangan Integrated National High School.
This study determined Effect of Suggesting Handheld Patient Waist Lifter as an Essential Tool to
the Caregiver’s Choice in Lifting a Patient
the determine difference in suggesting handheld patient’s waist lifter to a aregiver as an effective
tool and its effect on caregiver’s choice in lifting a patients.
The following terms are defined in accordance to how they were used in
the study.
Handheld - a feature in waist lifting device that can be beneficial to a caregiver in assiting a
patient.
Waist lifter - a tool designed to lift patient. In this study waistlifter features a handheld design.
The tasks of caring for the patient that can lead to back pain are as follows: changing the patient's
position in bed (Smedley, 1995), moving the patient between the bed and the wheelchair
(Smedley, 1995), and helping the patient to change position from lying to sitting on the bed
(Freiberg, 2016; , 2009). Manual patient handling can generally be defined whenever a patient
care provider is directly involved in the patient's transfer, placement, or lifting (Anyan, 2013).
Studies have shown that in specialized wards of hospitals, the risk of musculoskeletal disorders
appears to increase due to the physical load on the lower spine (Nabe-Nielsen, 2008)
Synthesis
The current study is related to many literature and general ideas reviewed by the researcher. It
aided to a more and deeper understanding
about the topic common to all professionals who imparted their ideas about the standard of
medical industries theoretical knowledge applied that establishes ideas for medical practices.
They provided the researcher deeper insights on the field of medical industry and subsequently
the different perspectives that should be develop and possess to promote effectiveness in the
handling of the patient. The studies cited focused on the possibilities of health care provider in
lifting and assisting a patient.
Survey
The purpose of this questionnaire is to inquire information regarding the Effect of Suggesting
Handheld Patient Waist Lifter as an Essential Tool to the Caregiver’s Choice in Lifting a Patient.
Your responses will be kept confidential.
Description:
1– Strongly Disagree
2– Disagree
3– Agree
4– Strongly Agree
METHODOLOGY
The presentation of the methods and procedure that were utilized in this study involves a
discussion on the following: Locale of the study, Research Tools and Instruments, Respondents,
Data Gathering Procedure, and Statistical Treatment.
The study was conducted at Talangan Integrated National High School, located at Talangan,
Nagcarlan Laguna. Caregiving is one of the Technical-Vocational Lifehood track in TINHS . The
Academic institution was built with caregiving labratory which serves as the training ground for
caregiving studebt in their rekated learning experience.
Research Design
The researcher used the non-experimental descriptive research design because it processes
purposively the gathering, analyzing, classifying, and tabulating of data about prevailing
conditions then making adequate and accurate interpretation about such data with or without
the aid of statistical method.
Population Sample
The respondent of this study are caregiving student who perform daily practices in caregiving
labratory which exposes them in problems that may occur in health care facility; one of them
being the uncomfortable procedure in lifting a patient by their waist.
INSTRUMENTATION
The method of collecting data used was the normative survey since the present research is a
status study.
The researcher formally sought permision to the professore of TINHS TVL-Caregiving. After jt was
approved, the researcher distributed questionaire to the faculty who have qualified in the set
selection criteria the questionnaire was explained during faculty general meeting where it was
the most convenient way to distribute and conduct the study. Each was given 15 minutes to
answer the questionnaire and was assured that their anonymity would be protected at all times.
After all the survey forms were collected, tabulation of data followed to reveal the responses
made by the respondents on each item categorized in the questionnaire.
The data gathered from the respondents were organized and tabulated. These data were
subjected to statistical tool to arrive in the desired results. The descriptive presentation of results,
weighted mean and Standard Deviation were used.
On this study statistical measure using Likert Scale was used to determine the Effect of Suggesting
Handheld Patient Waist Lifter as an Essential Tool to the Caregiver’s Choice in Lifting a Patient.
The mean was intreprted using the following narrative interpretation.
Likert Scale:
I
4- Strongly Agree
3- 3.99- Agree
2-2.99- Disagree
1- 1.99- Strongly Disagree
Recommendation
Preventive measures must be taken to protect health care workers from mechanical overload.
But, more research is needed on the effectiveness of these devices[should use full time nurse as
respondent]
