ABSTRACT
Digital Twin technology is an emerging concept that has become the center of attention for
industry and, in more recent years, academia. The advancements in industry 4.0 concepts
have facilitated its growth, particularly in the manufacturing industry. The Digital Twin is
defined extensively but is best described as the effortless integration of data between a
physical and virtual machine in either direction. The challenges, applications, and enabling
technologies for Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and Digital Twins are
presented. A review of publications relating to Digital Twins is performed, producing a
categorical review of recent papers. The review has categorized them by research areas:
manufacturing, healthcare, and smart cities, discussing a range of papers that reflect these
areas and the current state of research. The paper provides an assessment of the enabling
technologies, challenges, and open research for Digital Twins.

INTRODUCTION

Digital Twin is at the forefront of the Industry 4.0 revolution facilitated through advanced
data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity. IoT has increased the volume of
data usable from manufacturing, healthcare, and smart city environments. The IoT’s rich
environment, coupled with data analytics, provides an essential resource for predictive
maintenance and fault detection to name but two and also the future health of manufacturing
processes and smart city developments [1], while also aiding anomaly detection inpatient
care, fault detection, and traffic management in a smart city [2] [3]. The Digital Twin can
tackle the challenge of seamless integration between IoT and data analytics through the
creation of a connected physical and virtual twin (Digital Twin).
ADVANTAGES
 Industry can monitor the constant stream of usage and performance data in real-time.
 Industry can combine end-to-end asset or product life cycle data into digital threads.
 Industries support new products as a service business model.
 It drives innovations in manufacturing, R&D, supply chain management, service, and
logistics.
 Digital twins help to accelerate medical innovation. Digital twins are helping in the
research of tumors and the development of new drugs.
 These tools help doctors accurately optimize the performance of patient-specific
treatment plans. This technology can bring life-saving innovation to market faster,
reduce medical costs and increase patient safety.
 By creating a digital twin of a hospital, one can observe potential changes in
operational strategy, capacities, staffing, and care delivery, models

DISADVANTAGES

 The success of technology is dependent on internet connectivity.

 Security is at stake.
 The digital twin will be required across entire supply chains.
 The challenges involved here include globalization and new manufacturing
techniques. Managing all these design data for digital twin among partners and
suppliers as the physical product evolves will be a challenge.

ABSTRACT

With the rapid development of the Internet of Everything (IoE), the number of smart devices
connected to the Internet is increasing, resulting in large-scale data, which has caused
problems such as bandwidth load, slow response speed, poor security, and poor privacy in
traditional cloud computing models. Traditional cloud computing is no longer sufficient to
support the diverse needs of today’s intelligent society for data processing, so edge
computing technologies have emerged. It is a new computing paradigm for performing
calculations at the edge of the network. Unlike cloud computing, it emphasizes closer to the
user and closer to the source of the data. At the edge of the network, it is lightweight for
local, small-scale data storage and processing. This article mainly reviews the related
research and results of edge computing. First, it summarizes the concept of edge computing
and compares it with cloud computing. Then summarize the architecture of edge computing,
keyword technology, security, and privacy protection, and finally summarize the applications
of edge computing.

ADVANTAGES

 It offers high speed, reduced latency better reliability which allows for quicker data
processing and content delivery.
 It offers better security by distributing processing, storage, and applications across a
wide range of devices and data centers, which makes it difficult for any single
disruption to take down the network.
 It offers a far less expensive route to scalability and versatility, allowing companies to
expand their computing capacity through a combination of IoT devices and edge data
centers.
DISADVANTAGES

 It requires more storage capacity.

 Security challenges in edge computing are high due to the huge amount of data.
 It only analyses the data.
 Cost of edge computing is very high.
 It requires advanced infrastructure.
