Argao Unity Plaza: Tour Script
Mabuhay everyone! Good morning, I’m Seth and I’m going to be your tour guide to our next
destination. What are we waiting for? Let’s go!
Welcome to the Argao Unity Plaza, the town plaza of the municipality of Argao. It is also called
Pueblo Plaza. It is situated in the middle of everything, there’s the St. Michael the Archangel
Parish and some important government buildings such as the Argao Municipal Hall, Argao Hall
of Justice, and Argao Tourism Center. This plaza is one of the most gorgeous town plazas in
Cebu with benches if you want to take a short break from strolling and enjoy watching the
scenic views of the well-maintained garden, and there are also the beautiful picnic grounds
with well-trimmed grasses that lets you sit comfortably and take a rest. Aside from that, this
plaza is the first ever plaza in the whole of Cebu province to ever have a free Wi-fi zone that
offers free Wi-fi to visitors. Fascinating, isn’t it?
There are also historical structures that can be found in this plaza. There’s a total of 5 historical
structures that consisted of the plaza. First is the Narra Tree which was planted on the 4th of
July 1946 during the celebration of the Philippines’ first Independence Day after World War
II. Next is the Jose Rizal Monument which had the names of the first elected officials of Argao
after the Philippines’ independence from the Americans. A little trivia: the monument faces
the Argao Justice Hall because Rizal, himself, died seeking justice for his motherland, the
Philippines. The third is the 3 Cannons which were used as the first line of defense against the
Moro Pirates during the Spanish period and still functions. They made up a portion of the
pueblo's defenses. They were part of the fortified walls of the pueblo. These cannons were
from galleon ships in the years 1600 and 1700 when the galleon trade visited the town.
There’s the Community Well which was utilized by the Argawanons as a water supply during
the Spanish era, but it was eventually stopped as a result of cholera contamination of the
water, which resulted in a severe epidemic in Argao. And the last one is the American-Era
Telegra Post which was the remains of the telegraphic post built during the American era. It
was Argao's main method of communication with the outside world. And in 1927, The
telegraphing service known as telegram began its service.
