75% of the 40 respondents from grade 10 are Call of Duty players and 25% are
not. According to this data gathered, most of the students are Call of Duty

players.

Figure 2 shows that most of these players are also active players and
spend several hours in playing. The number of hours these students spend from
playing this game has been proven by some related studies to have a significant
bearing to their academic studies.

Figure 3. Responds of Students if Playing Call of Duty do really affect their

Academic performance

Figure 3 shows the responds of the students if playing Call of Duty do

really affect their academic performance. The data revealed that most of the
students who are also players of Call of Duty agree that playing Call of Duty do
really affect their academic performance with 23 of them who agree and only 7
who don’t, saying that their gaming lifestyle has nothing to do with their academic
performance.

This lifestyle has brought several negative effects to students. Students

often struggle with physical issues such as sleep deprivation and lack of focus.
Moreover, this also caused some emotional and behavioral problems which can
affect the students’ academic performance.

The next figure shows the effects of playing Call of Duty to grade 10
students. Most of the responds from the students involve lack of focus, neglected
school works, sleep deprivation, and anxiety.

Figure 4 shows the effects of playing Call of Duty to the students. The
highest is lack of focus with 40% while the lowest is anxiety with 13%. The
second highest is neglected school works with 27% then sleep deprivation with
20%. The 2 issues or problems which garnered the most part, namely lack of
focus and neglected school works, has a great effect to the students’ academic
performance. Lack of focus has been a great problem to students in their studies.

With the growth of MMOG, the impact it had brought to world can now be
seen. Its effects on some specific fields have been studied and are still being
studied by some researchers. According to some related studies, there are
several factors that affects students’ academic performance and one of these is
playing online games. The number of students who engage in playing these
online games has been increasing and is now quite alarming. But with proper
self-discipline, these lifestyle together with their education can be balanced.

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter includes the conclusion and the recommendation that the
researchers had come up from the findings.

5.1 Conclusion

The researchers had come up with their conclusions based from the gathered
data and information. Therefore, the researchers have accepted the hypothesis
that playing Call of Duty has negative effects on the students’ academic
performance. The findings of this study indicates that playing Call of Duty have
negatively affected the students’ academic performance which agreed to the
given hypothesis. However, these findings cannot be generalized to other
schools. The same study may be conducted to other schools to see if there are
any similarities in the results.

5.2 Recommendations

Since this study had only focused on the grade 10 students from Sibonga
National High School, it is recommended that further studies be carried out on
students from other schools to see whether there are any similarities in the
findings. Furthermore, future research could also explore the different factors that
affect the academic performance of students. Besides, this study is more focused
on proving that playing online games, specifically Call of Duty, has negative
effects on students’ academic performance, it is also recommended for other
researchers to study other online games and or the positive effects of playing
online games to students. Lastly, this study is conducted during the modular type
of learning era, so the increased in the number of players of MMOG can be
justified, that’s why it is also recommended to do the study during the face to face
learning in order to assess if there are any similarities in the results.
