CHAPTER 5

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents summary, significant findings, conclusion and

recommendation based on the results of the study presented in Chapter 4

SUMMARY

This study aimed to determine the relationship between online game exposure
and academic performance. It covers grade 7 students in Kibatang Don Carlos,
Bukidnon. Convenient sampling was employed. The study involves the third quarter
academic performance of the students during third quarter. Descriptive statistics and
test of significant relationship between online game exposure and academic
performance was employed in the conduct of study.

Findings

The following are the findings along with the specific problems of the study;

Problem 1. What is the level of online game exposure of Grade 7 students?

This study found out that out of 15 statements, one statement was marked as
“Often,” seven statements were marked as “Sometimes,” six statements were marked
as “Rarely,” and one statement was marked as “Never.” This means that majority of the
students have an average online game exposure.

Problem 2. What is the level of academic performance of grade 7 students?

Based on the table shown, 8 students, which represents 34.78% of the total 23
students, performed outstandingly. 5 students, or 21.73%, performed at a very
satisfactory level, while 9 students, or 39.13%, performed satisfactorily. One student, or
4.34%, performed at a fairly satisfactory level. None of the students failed to meet
expectations, or in other words, 0% of the students failed. The study says majority of the
students have an average academic performance.

Problem 3. Is there a significant relationship of online game exposure and academic

performance of grade 7?

As divulged by the result, there is a significant relationship between online game

exposure and academic performance of G-7 students, as indicated by the Pearson
Correlation coefficient of 0.048. The interpretation of this correlation coefficient is that
there exists a low positive relationship between online game exposure and academic
performance. This means that as online game exposure increases, academic
performance also tends to increase, but the relationship between the two variables is
not very strong.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this study provides insights into the level of online game exposure
and academic performance of Grade 7 students, as well as the relationship between
these two variables. The findings suggest that most students have an average level of
online game exposure and academic performance. However, there is a significant
correlation between online game exposure and academic performance, indicating that
as online game exposure increases, academic performance tends to increase as well,
although the relationship between these two variables is not very strong. These results
highlight the importance of monitoring online game exposure and its potential impact on
academic performance.

Recommendation
Within the context of the findings and conclusion, appropriate actions needed to
be undertaken through the following recommendation:

Secondary School Students. I would advise students in secondary schools to strike a

balance between playing internet games and their academic success. The temptation to
spend hours playing online games may be strong, but too much exposure might have a
negative effect on academic achievement. Therefore, it is advised that students set a
time restriction for playing online games, especially on school days, and give their
academic obligations top priority. Studying, reading, and taking part in extracurricular
activities are a few more activities that are crucial for academic achievement. Students
should also be aware of the hazards associated with playing online games excessively,
including poor academic performance, lack of sleep, and social isolation, and take
precautions to reduce these risks. Students can accomplish their academic goals and
yet have fun by striking a balance between playing online games and their other
obligations.

Secondary School Teachers. Teachers in secondary schools need to be aware of the

potential effects playing online games may have on students’ academic performance.
Teachers should inform students about the negative effects of excessive exposure,
promote alternative academic pursuits, keep an eye on students’ use of online games,
interact with parents, and encourage responsible online conduct to help students
maintain a healthy balance. By following these guidelines, students can succeed
academically

Secondary School Principal. Secondary school principals should recognize the impact
of online game exposure on academic performance and take steps to promote a healthy
balance. This includes encouraging teachers to educate students on the consequences
of excessive exposure and promoting other academic activities, establishing guidelines
for online game use, monitoring students’ use and intervening if necessary, and
promoting responsible online behavior through school policies and activities. These
measures can help students achieve academic success.
Future Researchers. Future researchers in the field of teaching may use the findings of
this study which can be linked with their future research.
