MOBILE PHONE: EFFECTS TO THE ACADEMIC

PERFORMANCE IN GRADE 12 SENIOR HIGH

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to determine the effects of mobile phones to the academic
performance of Grade 12 Senior High School Students of Sta. Lucia High School during the
School Year 2019-2020
Specifically, it sought answer to the following question:
1.What are the influences that caused the students to be forced to use mobile phones for
education?
2.What are the mobile phone technologies available for learning?
3.How often do students use their phones in the classroom?
4.How does mobile phones usage affect education?
5.How Mobile Phones affect student’s health?
Is there a significant relationship between the use of mobile phones and academic
performance?
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to know the effects of Mobile Phones to the Academic
Performance of the students. Mobile Phones is part of students’ daily living, students tend to use
their phones for communication, entertainment, etc. thus this study tend to know if it can cause
students to can’t concentrate to their studies and may affect their Academic Performance.
The Findings of the Study are as follows:
1.The Students respondents evaluated the following survey questionnaire with an average
weighted means of 4.43, 2.95, and 2.70 perspectively
2.The Students tend to use their mobile phones between 2-4 hours of duration and usage of
their mobile phones with a weighted mean of 3.72 with an interpretation of Often.
3.The Academic Performance of Students doesn’t really affect by their usage of mobile phones
with their grades. In Midterm for the 1st Semester, students get a grade between 85-89 with an
averaging mean of 69.72 with an interpretation of Very Satisfactory and the grade in Finals for
the 1st Semester students get a grade between 85-89 with an averaging mean of 61.44 with an
interpretation of Very Satisfactory.
ABSTRACT
4.There is significant relationship between the use of mobile phones
and their academic performance, because there are many students
passed their grades even, they are using mobile phones.
5.The Students affect their health by using their mobile phones with no
limitation or nonstop usage with no parents’ supervision resulting to
poor eye sight.
6.The frequent usage of mobile phones and how excellent students on
their academic performance will be useful nowadays for example, the
student use their mobile phones in daily life or routine based on their
duration of their usage. The Students tend to use their mobile phones
between 2-4 hours of duration and usage of their mobile phones with a
weighted mean of 3.72 with an interpretation of Often.

Conclusion
Based on the following findings of the study, the following conditions where
arrived at:
The proposed survey questionnaire is acceptable and effective in improving the
school performance of the student’s respondents.
Recommendations
In the light of the findings and conclusion, the following recommendations are
being presented.
1.Students should be controlled and limit the usage of their mobile phones, instead
focus more on studies.
2.In making a survey questionnaire, indicate more examples of varieties of questions
to make the survey more effective.

In figure 2. The input shows the 50 respondents composed of Grade 12 Students of Sta.

Lucia High School. The process shows the analyzation and interpreting of the data and the output

is they known the effects of the mobile phone in academic performance.


Null Hypothesis

This is no significant difference in the student’s preference on their Usage of mobile

phones in academic performances of Grade 12 Students of Sta. Lucia High School.

Alternative Hypothesis

This is significant difference in the student’s preference on their Usage of mobile phones in

academic performances of Grade 12 Students of Sta. Lucia High School.
