CHAPTER 1 – INTRODUCTION

1.1 Rationale

Background of the Study

Thesis Project St Mary’s College of Bansalan Inc. Thesis and capstone archiving

system is a system that store and manage final year student’s thesis and projects in

one system. The school are usually keep the thesis and Capstone project in the library.

With this ideas to create a system to make the project manage the information with

the proper system. there is an idea to manage the information with the computerize

system and arrange the data in one centralize database system.

In addition, St Mary’s College of Bansalan Inc. Thesis and capstone archiving system

is developing using the well-known of PHP programming language that can easier to

maintain and improve in future use. Firstly, the project must finish by students and

was by graded evaluator, coordinator and supervisor. Then, St Mary’s College of

Bansalan Inc. Thesis and capstone archiving system is used to store the projects

information and make sure the projects will not lose their information. The useful of

this system is could help students to find the past year student project or research and

made as reference or new idea. . With this system , it can help the students to get the

information in a proper way.

Company Overview

St Mary’s College of Bansalan Inc. Thesis and capstone archiving system has been

developed to provide a management in records. This system helps the students to get

information and idea to the thesis and capstone projects. The system gave help to

maintain, preserve undergraduate and graduate thesis and remain retrieval for as long

as they are required.

Gap Statement

The thesis and the capstone of the students who graduated is keeping in the library or

the office of the program head. When you find their projects there is possibility that

take time to find. The researcher have come with study to make some improvement

and develop a web based system to manage the records.

1.2 Objectives
General Objective
Specific Objectives
 To provide security for the records.
 To provide easy access of information.
 Storing and compiling all academic research project.

1.3 Significance of the Study

This project will help the students to get the information and idea about thesis and
capstone project. Students can access the records online.
Students : They will find the thesis and capstone projects when they logging in.
Admin: They can add and drop the thesis and capstone project in the website. And
also they can help the students who are looking for idea.
Researcher : The success of this study will contribute to their knowledge and skills
as developers and programmers.
Future Researchers: The study can serve as basis for their own version of Thesis and
Capstone Archiving System.
1.4 Scope and Limitations
This thesis and capstone archiving system is accessible to student, researchers and
admin. This is a web-based application that provides an online platform for storing the
students thesis and capstone projects. It generate lesser time in scanning, easy to use
and easy to manage, stores all records of thesis and capstone projectof the students.
1.5 Operational Terms
System – it is a computer software designed to provide platform to other software
include operating system, computational science software, industrial automation and
software as service application.

System Development Method

 Dynamic Systems Development Model

Figure 1 System Development Life Cycle

Dynamic Systems Development Model is a software development methodology originally

based on the Rapid Application Development methodology. This is an iterative and
incremental approach that emphasizes continuous user involvement. Its main aim is to deliver
software systems on time and within budget. The sequential phases in Dynamic Systems
Development Model  are:

The Feasibility Study- In this phase

the feasibility of the project for the use of DSDM is examined. Prerequisites for the
use of DSDM are addressed by answering questions.

Functional Model
The requirements that have been identified in the previous stages are converted to a fu
nctional model. This model consists of both a functioning prototype and models.

ImplementationIn the Implementation stage, the tested system including user docum
entation is delivered to the users, and training of future users is realized. The system to
be delivered has been reviewed to include the requirements that have been set in the b
eginning stages  of the project.

Design&BuildThe main focus of this DSDM iteration is to integrate the functional co
mponents from the previous phase into one system that satisfies user needs. It also ad
dresses the non-functional requirements that have been set for the IS.
