• Menurut David Simchi-Levi “Supply chain management is a set of
approaches utilized to efficiently integrate suppliers, manufacturers,
warehouses, and stores, so that merchandise is produced and
distributed at the right quantity, to the right locations, at the right
time, in order to minimize systemwide costs while satisfying service
level requirement”.

• Menurut Heizer dan Rander, Supply Chain Management adalah suatu kegiatan
pengelolaan berbagai kegiatan atau aktivitas dalam rangka mendapatkan bahan mentah
menjadi barang setengah jadi serta juga barang jadi, setelah itu mengirimkan produk
tersebut ke konsumen dengan melalui sistem distribusi.
• Menurut Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, Supply Chain
Management encompasses the planing and management of all activities involved in
sourcing and procurement, conversion, and all logistic management activities,
importantly, it also includes coordination and collaboration with channel partners,
which can be suppliers, intermediaries, third party service providers, and customers. In
essence, supply chain management intergrates supply and demand management within
and across companies.

Upstream Supply Chain
• Meliputi aktivitas dari suatu perusahaan manufaktur dengan para
penyalurnya dan koneksi mereka kepada para penyalur mereka.
• Aktivitas utama adalah pengadaan.
Internal Supply Chain
• Meliputi semua proses inhouse yang digunakan dalam
mentransformasikan masukan dari para penyalur ke dalam
keluaran organisasi itu.
• Aktifitas utama adalah manajemen produksi, pabrikasi dan
pengendalian persediaan.
Downstream Supply Chain
• Meliputi semua aktivitas yang melibatkan pengiriman produk
kepada pelanggan akhir.
• Aktifitas diarahkan pada distribusi, transportasi pergudangan
dan after-sales service.
